It's not her fault she keeps getting casted for movies, you should complain to Hollywood as they are the ones who keep selecting her.

She is creepy as all get-out! Watching this little girl spew out COMPLETELY adult emotions and logic is just...well...spooky. She sounds like a little adult stuck in a childs body. I know children have complex emotions but they are not capable of expressing them with the sophisticated logic that she does in this movie(thats why kids cry and throw temper tantrums...they are frustrated by their inability to express what they are feeling). The situation reminds me of a nine year old Michael Jackson singing about the heartache of his girlfriend leaving him or Jon Bonet Ramsey being dressed and made up to mimic a "sexy" adult to win a beauty contest. The fact is they were children with a childs view of the world and had NO IDEA what it truly felt like to have lost a girlfriend or to be a sexy woman and all the baggage that comes with that.
Dakota Fanning is an awe inspiring actress and she did an amazing job speaking and emoting the words and emotions of an adult. However it is precisely that incredible acting skill that makes this movie hard to watch for me. Just because she is able to essentially read the lines and make the tears doesnt mean she, as Dakota Fanning, is capable of understanding what she is acting out. SHE IS A CHILD and should act as a child not like an adult trapped in a childs body. To me its just another example of the U.S'. cultural fascination with "miniature" adults. It literally ruined this movie for me. Not that it would have made it much better if she had acted as a child her age; its still a rather average, and very predictable, movie.
I came to this board looking for similar reactions to mine on this subject and it seems I am not the only one that is creeped out by it.

During the 17th century children were viewed as little adults. Personally I don't think you can make such generalizations. Some children are wise beyond their years, while......some adults never grow up. Anyway, I don't suppose it matters if she gets it all if she makes the audience feel it. Although I suspect that her intelligence and power of emotion bely that!

reply

Most children are just children but some children have more mature minds. It's funny to watch.

hide and seek was not scary

reply

Freakadelic. But she'll be fading into obscurity any time now...

reply

You gotta be kidding. Fading into obscurity? Sean Penn says he hopes he lives long enough to see what kinds of awards and recognition she'll receive. He thinks she is already one of the best of the best. She's going nowhere - except straight to the top. That girl can ACT.

reply

your crazy, Dakota steals this film as she always does...she's a great actor and she's not going anywhere!!

she's terrifying. something about that said but insightful crooked teeth smile. maybe it's because when i close my eyes she's still there, i imagine hers is the face that will be shared by the next great cult leader. something about her sudden and stabilized popularity. i haven't watched one movie she's been in and yet i see her almost everyday, on poster, billboards, store windows, always pretending to be someone else in an innocent and vindictive plan to slowly take over the world! (ok, that's a little much, but you gotta admit the kid has power, and that in itself is scary!)

Yeah, I actually think the person who made this whole thread is scary! She's 11! God, you people are just idiots who were board one day and made a thread!

reply

She is a great actress with a great career ahead of her. She has the ability to play a variety of different roles that are believable, it doesn't make her scary. It makes her remarkable for an 11 year old.

reply

I'm sorry I have to point out that you are insulting us, and yet, you can't even spell BORED correctly. I have seen a picture on David Spade's show on comedy central, and he did point out, with slow motion and everything, a very frightening face she made during an interview, when asked about how excited she was to meet some other famous person. It was really quite creepy, especially on a 52" DLP TV.

reply

I am her 1#fan she is not scary she is really really talented, oh I just wish I could make a movie with her so so bad I am 10 years old.

reply

Why do kids feel compelled to tell you how old they are? Like, when you're 3 and can't count or control your own fingers, then it's kinda cute. but 10, 11, what? You think we'll be utterly amazed that you can think on your own? WHAT?

reply

are you really making fun of a 10-year-old? what kind of a person are you? she's a kid...let them be that way for a while, we all have our awkward phases, some just happen to be on national television

It's funny -- when I first saw her, I was like "mmmmm, she's a little . .. funny lookin thing, ain't she?" Then, after really looking . . . she's a cute lil kid to me. Just an adorable little actress, who makes her money. Go little one, keep doing your thing. You've been blessed with a gift to use.

Some of you guys are being so childish! Dakota Fanning acts just fine for a twelve year old girl (I believe she had her birthday, so she's another year older!)and the reason perhaps she is getting casted in so many movies is because she actually has some talent! And I think one of you who made the wise crack at her teeth really needs to get over herself or himself...(wow, that sounds kind of wrong, if you think about it...on second thought, don't...it would make your brain explode just trying to merge a thought or two together, and I don't want stupid juice all over my computer screen, thank you very much.)I know image means alot to the fantasy life of movies and to life in general, and don't say it doesn't because it does, but you don't judge a person when you don't even know the person. I don't know her, either...but I'm sure she's a good person whose had to grow up quicker than most preteens.

Not to sound envious or anything (and I am, a little hehe), she's accomplished more than any of us have probably done or will probably do in a lifetime. So, all power to her, whatever. She's making her millions, people keep seeing her movies, obviously....she's not going any where soon. Unless she's just one of those child stars that just automatically disappear off the radar after her child like charm wears off. :( *sigh* Well, I hope not! :)

Ciao for now,

Kayla :)

I agree Dakota is remarkable. Her talent is amazing. She is wise beyond her years. I can see where some people are bothered by her because she has powerful, piercing eyes that look right through to your soul. That piercing gaze is also her charm because she doesn't seem aware of it nor does she use it like a weapon. It's that innocent honesty that still comes through, despite her powerful eyes. I like her. She mixes innocence with maturity without losing the innocence. She's a good actress who will be around for many years if she continues to stay well grounded and keeps her ego leashed. So far, so good Dakota! You go girl!

just saw this show tonight at theatre. great story. i can't believe that i was sitting through this show thinking exactly what a bunch of you were thinking. dakota fanning IS scary looking!!! almost to the point of being ugly. got so tired of seeing her by the end of this movie. tired of seeing her in too many other movies. she reminds me of the shining. is she related to shelly duvall? she has these emotionless frog eyes that just make me want to turn away. gonna need braces bad. she is not much of an actress. conveys no range of emotions. especially in those emotionless frog eyes.

reply

Mean Girls ruined her. She was a little snot-nosed bitch in that flick. Sucked.

Ummmm what have YOU done with your life?
Me thinks maybe you should read THAT BOOK again about being the first to cast a stone... or throwing stones when you live in a glass house.
JEALOUSY, that is what I see in most all of these responses... just bitter, low self esteem, jealousy!
There is only ONE reason to tear someone down - to make yourself feel better or bigger.
But you know the sad or maybe great fact about listening to people? What they say about others mostly says more about THEM, and not who they are talking about.
I've found the bitter, nasty, negativity very sad.
I hope all your lives will become more pleasant and I hope that God will bless all of you with just one glorious opportunity to DO something as amazing as one quarter of what Dakota has managed to accomplish in 10 short years of her life.

I for one HOPE she remains a likeable actress. One can always hope. But if today's sad trends in actresses are any indication -- if you think she's scary now, that pales in comparison to how scary she is likely to be by the time she's as old as say, Lindsay Lohan.
