How the heck did Bobbi get pregnant?

Anybody out there have any idea how a person who uses the pill AND condoms can get pregnant?

Isn't that, like 174% effective? Aren't the odds against becoming pregnant under such circumstances astronomically high?

And why, oh why does she take her pills right before having sex? You're supposed to take them at the same time every day, so...middle of the afternoon, early evening...maybe that was the problem?

reply

She did mention in one episode that she sometimes forgot to take her pill.

The must be in Season Two. I'll have to wait until the end of the month for that...screwy Canadian TV won't let us watch anything down here.

So, does anyone know yet who the father is? I understand there was a clue in the last episode of Season Two, but from what I've guessed it, too, isn't terribly probable...Help us poor Yankees!

I was under the impression you guys were at least able to see the third season by now. I thought the whole season must be in the can by now?

I'll not read your spoiler (I assume if I click there, the tape will disappear?) until after I've had a chance to watch the dvds....only about a week! They should be here by Monday! (I'm looking forward to it)

Ok, so I've watched the whole second season. And I never saw where Bobbi said she sometimes missed the pills. She said she didn't like to take pills in reference to the suggestion she get on "happy pills" for her depression.

And WTF about the birthmark? First of all, a birthmark is NOT genetic!!! LOL.

Second, it's not even in the same place? And what was that whole thing with Sebastien Spence? A drug induced dream? Am I reading that right?

What a jerk Bobby was! Screwed himself, good, he did.

PS: I just found on the official website that the Season 3 premier was Monday night (like two days ago) on CTV, so, I guess we can look forward to the tapes in about a year? There are two synopses under season 3 on the imdb page.

First show of season three identified the father, as the birthmark only hinted of the possibility of who the father may be: the father is Yuri

And I'm STILL trying to figure out how she got pregnant in the first place!

Love the show, but it IS a bit unrealistic.

But if you go back to the original post, she was taking the pill AND using condoms (and, if you read the plot synopsis, it alludes to the fact that Bobby uses a condom, too - Extra protection? - of course, we never actually see anything to that effect, but there is mention of when he finds the wrapper that it "isn't his brand").

reply

well when she slept w/yuri, they wore a condom, and she used the pill w/bobby. so either way, she was "protected" but doubly when she was w/yuri. so yeah, i guess it is pretty bizarre (i'd never even thought of it -- the show has so much information in one epi that it's easy for me to forget). but hey...it's a s/l!

reply

Somewhere in my life, I seem to have heard some statistic... if a woman misses three pills in one month, she's not protected at all. Since Bobbi sometimes forgot to take her pills... well, if it was three times, *poof* she might as well not be taking them at all, so that's no protection for her.

And Yuri, c'mon! Doesn't he just strike you as the type of person who would buy condoms from the Dollar Store? From the discount bin the Dollar Store? That just can't be called 'protection' either.

So, there you go! Totally unprotected sex.

(Even with the pill and a condom, neither one is 100%, and ~someone~ has to be that 0.001% possibility!)

I am not sure if you paid any attention to the episode. The water in her apartment was broken. Every time she tried to take the pill, she couldnt. Once you are off a day or so, you are pretty much screwed for the month (and depending on what pills she had, it may take her a month or so to get back in sync). I can only assume that the condom broke OR the fact of having one condom could have been an issue (they could have had intercourse numerous times, initially with condom, and then subsequent times without....)

As for the birthmark, yes, birth marks can be heritable. The most famous being the great Han (also known as Genghis Khan). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_spot

With all that said, the show was great! I was able to see the DVD release. Love the characters, love the humor. Anyone know of any similar shows on as of 2010/2011?

Yes Mr. Science, it is remotely possible, but extremely rare! So we have a child conceived under a nearly impossible circumstances, then the child has an extremely unlikely inherited spot.

These are 3 highly improbable statistical anomolies occuring one after the other. It is for all practical purposes-impossible.

I suppose the child being struck by lightning twice while indoors is also "possible", but use your common sense!

Bobbi stated that she sometimes forgot to take her pill in "Season 2, Episode 3: I Did Not Have Sex with That Woman"

That's true. Anyway, even if it almost never happens, you can get pregnant even if you take pills and uses condoms. It almost never happens, there like 0.23455654 % chances that it happens, but sometimes it does. It's important that people know that.
