I love how Liberal the media is.

...That Fox gets attacked for being the only conservative news outlet. God forbid there be 1 out of 1000 that isn't Liberal.

It's because Fox is the most overtly biased while claiming to be "fair and balanced."

reply

Exactly. If they would admit they slant to the right, it wouldn't be a problem.

Anyone who says they don't has their blinders on. I have worked in the media for twelve years. They lean to the right. Period.

reply

Yeah but how many media outlets admit to being slanted to the left?? lol, yet all of them claim to be fair as well, it's the same for both sides.

There's a difference in being slanted one way and pretty much being a propaganda machine for the GOP the way FOX is...

You have a point, and believe me FOX news is crap to me, but this is the dangerous part when you start to say that YOUR side is not biased but the other side is, both are biased. It is the way of the political world, you can never get the truth , the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I don't believe FOX is the government's tool, I think that is pretty hypocritical of you to think that republicans only use the media as their tool when they are in office, democrats do the same thing.

reply

You should read up on Roger Ailes then. The guy was the former media adviser to Nixon, Reagan and Bush Sr. You don't see potential Democratic presidential candidates or highly prominent figures have their own shows or used as regular contributors like Huckabee, Palin and Gingrich.

Ever heard of Obama? LOL, please, the guy is on TV every minute. He can't stay away from being on television. He did interviews for history channel documentaries about the death of bin Laden, who does that when they are still in office? Usually presidents wait til after they are done to give those kinds of documentary interviews. Obama uses the media as well as any republican has or is doing, don't be so one sided, lol, that is what is wrong with this country.

We're talking news media here so don't change the subject. Obama has his regular weekly radio address and press briefings, but CNN, NBC, ABC and others don't use party insiders like Huckabee, Palin and Gingrich a regular show to talk partisan politics like FOX does. And back to your History Channel thing, I think you're mistaken. It's more accurate to get interviews in the context of the moment or closer to the event. In my Public Opinion Class (Journalism 484) I took, FOX News clearly crosses the line into a propaganda agenda.

reply

FoX "News" Channel cuts President Obama off faster. It did not so treat Dubya, around whom it established a personality cult in all but name.

Documentary programs about current events are news. If the President makes a few quick, unscripted comments, then what do we lose? If a prior President had done much the same in earlier times, I would have had no problem with that.

Before Gingrich announced his candidacy he had a show on FOX and was a paid contributor. Palin is a paid contributor and Huckabee has a show on FOX News.

reply

ok, you are right, but that doesn't mean there are no liberal candidates who are paid contributors either. It's not one way, it's two ways.

First.... media is a PLURAL noun!

Second, FoX is scripted to have an anti-liberal screed. it is as a rule a little bit of news and then (in 2008) George W. Bush is wonderful! -- or now -- Obama is horrible!

FoX News differs from old Pravda in that

1. FoX is on a TV instead of newsprint

2. FoX is slicker

3. FoX is for plutocracy and Pravda was for Communism

4. FoX is in English and Pravda was in Russian.

Multiple research studies have proven FOX News to be the most fair & balanced of the major American media outlets, so they've earned their slogan.

The real "problem" with FOX News isn't that they're overly right-wing, it's that they're not overly left-wing.

Liberals are like spoiled teenage girls. They've been conditioned to have a very slanted, very delusional view of what constitutes fairness. In their deranged minds, being heavily biased towards the left is fair. Therefore, anything that isn't heavily biased towards the left, like FOX News, qualifies as unfair, and they cry over it.

Too bad, so sad.

FOX News continues to roll along, kicking ass, taking names, and dominating the ratings. The flood of Liberal teams do nothing but make FOX News' dominance all the sweeter.

American Idol and NASCAR kick ass in the ratings too...It just goes to show how idiotic people are in this country. I think the most telling study is FOX News viewers are more misinformed than people that don't watch the news at all..

reply

What you missed -- Viewers of FoX News Channel have been shown to be terribly misinformed on the facts. A study asked people whether they believed the following:

1. Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attacks.
2. At the time of the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction or a nuclear program.
3. The rest of the world approved of the US invasion of Iraq.

All three were demonstrably false.

What sources people used for their information colored how they answered the questions. People who relied upon foreign news sources, printed newspapers, web-based journals, CNN, or the PBS News Hour did well. People who got their news in depth from sources that could budget time to give extensive coverage of war and diplomacy or could read the news at leisure got it right. Oddly those who relied on the Daily Show (on Comedy Central!) got it right. The Daily Show is a comedy program -- but comedy is good analysis. Just think of Jay Leno and David Letterman today, or Johnny Carson in his time -- some information can come from snide jokes about incompetent and deceitful politicians.

People who relied entirely upon the 30-minute nightly news programs of ABC, CBS, and NBC did badly. Superficiality trumps bias on such programs. There just isn't much news in a twenty-minute (ten are advertising) program that has to fit a predictable mold for the comfort of viewers and can never go in depth. But anyone dedicating only twenty minutes to news (Cronkhite admitted the limitations of the format and told people to read newspapers!) isn't going to get much information.

FoX News Channel is a different matter. People who watch it as their primary source of information watch a lot of it. It is deadly-serious -- but it has an agenda, basically to support right-wing causes and pols. Surprising little of it is news reporting. Much of it is analysis -- but before you think that that academic-sounding word implies competent nobility, then think closely of what transpires. Most of it is reinforcement of pre-selected material to fit the political agenda.

If people who spend much time watching a certain news source are misinformed, then something is wrong with that news source.

LOL @ the zombie "liberal media" myth. It won't die despite being dead. Zombie.

Sunday, Face The Nation on CBS will devote most of their show to the crisis in Ukraine. Not one Democrat or liberal on the panel. In fact, as long as we're on the subject of the Sunday shows, look into how "balanced" they are in terms of left vs. right. (Spoiler: They're not. Republican/conservative guests dominate in numbers.)

The problem is, Fox and AM radio are SO FAR right that when you don't see the same conspiracy theories and made-up nonsense on other networks, you have yourself convinced that they're "liberal." It's BS.

You want left-leaning on TV, you've got MSNBC. Which, from what I hear from Fox viewers, "NOBODY watches." You can call ABC, CBS, and NBC "liberal" all you want. It's not going to make it true. Sorry...they're CORPORATE. And they do have a bias absolutely. But it's a PROFIT bias, period. Which manifests itself in a bias toward CONFLICT, SENSATIONALISM, and LAZINESS.

Fox? Fox is propaganda. Plain and simple. Frankly, it's not even the (undeclared..and actually denied) bias...it's the just making sh*t up.
