Alternate title: CROSROADS? Nice movie

THE NOVICE is showing on Time Warner Cable On Demand (Starz, I think), but under the title CROSSROADS, about which there's nothing mentioned here on imdb (lots of other CROSSROADS's, though). Anyway, I enjoyed this movie (how could one not, with Alan Arkin, Frank Langella and the rest of this cast?), though it was a bit choppy and frustrating. Really engaging, though, and I'd be interested to see more from the folks who made it.

i endorse it, too. i saw it this morning. i'm from louisiana, went to loyola university (of new orleans), and have known one or two jesuits personally, so this little film had some interest to me from the start.
as mentioned, the cast is outstanding. it is slow and kind of demanding. definitely not for many in today's "thrills and chills"-seeking audiences. looks like it was made for the-straight-to-video market. that's no comment on its content, though.
the 'crisis' the main character ("the novice") deals with is one i'd imagine is pretty central to an aspiring priest's ambition. and, i think it's handled pretty nicely. there are a couple of hiccups in the way the story's told, but the resolution is suitably ambiguous (for the subject matter), and again, the acting is superb by my count. you'll seldom go wrong with arkin and langella.

Just saw it and I liked it. Seems like a low budget movie but the acting is good and lots of low-key humor here and there. It's a simple story but keeps your attention. It's a very "salubrious" movie. Nice to see a movie about Christians without it being preachy or lame with realistic characters.
