So What Happened??
Did he sleep with Jill? Why would he think he could kiss a girl and then go straight back to the seminary? And Gilbert just decided to give up?? This movie didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

He used the founder of the Jesuit order as an example of why he should be allowed to go back to the seminary after the kiss with the girl.
Gilbert saw the note about "not being Jesuit material" and probably began thinking about his options; and toward the end of the film his option was to drop out.
I found the film deliberate and straight-forward. I thought it captured the process of young people making life-altering decisions very well in its 89 minutes.
