I enjoyed this movie

I have read a few of the comments, both positive and negative. If I really wanted to analyze what takes place in this movie I would have a few questions but I do not watch movies to analyze them. What eliminates the need to do that with this movie, for me, is that this story is a fairy tale, or a fantasy (as we tend to call them once we have grown up). That is the the purpose of fantasies...to make people able to do the things you want them to do whether they are realistic or not. All of the amazing things seen in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon are unrealistic but I did not find myself wondering how the characters learned how to do them. It does not matter because it is a fantasy.

Speaking of being unrealistic, why do people continue to "compare" movies to one another. If you have two movies, telling the exact same story, you may have a reason to compare them. I have watched thousands of movies, in my time, and this is the first time I have seen this story so what do I have to compare it to? Comparing movies that are not alike does a disservice to both movies.

I read one comment that criticized the directing. Personally, I am not sure what good (or bad) directing is and I would think that the average moviegoer is the same. If I had seen some cables, microphones or the like in some of the shots I would agree that is bad directing but I did not see anything like that. That is probably why only Director's can vote for Best Director for an Oscar.

It seems to me that the Director/Writer has referenced a number of works, Faustus for one, that contain lessons on the human condition particularly when it comes to making hasty judgements, for themselves or of other people, that are sometimes based on incorrect or incomplete information.

Just some observations and one person's opinion, of course.

Captain Algren: I will tell you...how he lived.
