Could someone shed some light on the acting for me, please?

The plot was pretty weak and near laughable in my opinion, but anyone want to share their opinions about the performances by the actors/actresses? I'm not too familiar with them and don't know the standard in Chinese films, but apparently they're big names. Were they all that terrible?

Please don't rant...I just went through pages and pages of crap on this board. There must be something more to discuss than bad CG in the film (notably the bull scene apparently) and bad Chinese accents.

Yes, they are all big names in their respective countries.

While I never cared much for Nicholas Tse or Cecilia Cheung (they didn't even use her actual voice in the movie), I highly respect Hiroyuki Sanada and his work as well as Jang Dong Gun. Though they did their best to speak Mandarin for their roles while trying to act with the right emotions, it really wasn't the best way to showcase their acting abilities.

So if I think they were terrible in this movie then it's not their fault. I just blame the director for his incredibly flawed vision. Honestly I thought the only convincing acting I saw was done by the two children in the beginning.
