i would never have known about this film w/ a poster's suggestion from the site for Secret Sunshine, in which the amazing Do-yeon Jeon starred(the younger version of the mother in this film.)

I was very touched by this film with the mother/daughter element, but i cannot for the life of me reconcile that the mother became so negative with her husband- in that it appeared that we are to understand that the postman became her husband. did that work for you?

Jeon De-yeon played the daughter and the younger version of the mother, right?

At the beginning of the film, we see the mother begging someone to let her family off their debts. Her husband continually lent money, or borrowed money on behalf of friends to the point where they went broke several times.
It wasn't the mother's choice to be working as a scrubber in a bathhouse. The job was low paying and low status.

The daughter's tuition money for college, for example, went to pay off one of the loans. The mother's bitterness came from years and years of disappointment that her husband would DO something she could be proud of.

After how ever many years in the Postal Service, he still was only a letter sorter, rather than moving up the ranks.
