DEAR GOD WHY???!!!

Damn, that Dead Central review was on the money. This dvd was a blind buy based off of the good reviews it got and the awards it won and the interesting looking trailer. All I can say is that those reviewers must have been really high or the filmmakers must have good blackmail photos of them! And the festivals it won must have some seriously low standards. I think I lost a few IQ points just by watching it. This movie starts with a good premise and then it makes a bee line for the bottom of the nearest barrel! Random stuff seemed to happen that made no sense. I don't know where to begin but what sticks in my head is the pointless sex scene. The lead character Alex goes up a fire escape and watches his friends screw. What the hell was that about!?!?!? So Alex is a pervert, now what? Are we supposed to care about him more now? It was an excuse to have nudity I guess. What they needed was an excuse to work on the story. I mean all the dude does is just go places and meet people. Occasionally one of them gets killed and he runs away. That's it! And what was with all of the chess crap. It didn't even play into the main story. It was just something for them to do so they didn't have to stare at each other in the scenes. I thought I was missing something so I watched it again after a couple of days. Let's just say that it gave me the best sleep that i had in a while. I didn't want to completely waste my $20 bucks so I went through all the extra stuff on the disc. By the way, the picture on the outside of the dvd has NOTHING to do with the movie!!!! I was led to believe that it would have a little zombie action or something. But it looks like it was a simple case of a movie that sucked so bad that you have to lie to the public to get them to watch it. The commentary shed a little light on things. It seems that director was so overjoyed about being able to direct a movie that he could care less about story and logic. I understand that it contains alternate worlds and stuff like that but if you're gonna set up rules you should stick to them. Not to spoil it for those fortunate enough not to have seen it yet, but the main kid affects people he comes in contact with. But there are a bunch of people he came in contact with who SHOULD HAVE been affected but nothing happens. I think they were making it up as they went. The director talks about a bunch of ideas and theories that the movie is supposed to be about. The problem with that is NONE OF IT IS EVER PRESENTED IN THE MOVIE! You would never know it if you don't listen to the commentary. There is no real resolution at the end of the movie and that's fine. Most movies can get away with that if it was worth the ride. But there is no ride here worth taking. What you will get at the end will make you bust a gut with laughter. When Alex goes back to his friends place he sees them as creatures. When they show the whole creature I couldn't believe what I saw. They actually had dildos hanging off of them!!! I thought they were going to reach out and molest him or something. They're were a few famous faces here and there but I guess they need to pay the rent too. The movie never opened in my town but I guess that was a good thing. I would have been one of the poor suckers who paid to see this on a big screen. It still would have been cheaper than buying the dvd. And i would'nt have had to take it home with me. Well, for $20 bucks I have a shiny new frisbee and a dvd case I can re use. I'll try to sell it to a video store or something. This can go right up on the shelf next to Boogeyman from last year. I'm sure there are a few people who could use a good laugh or some sleep. I actually want to see what B-movie this director does next. He can only go up from here.

The film was a lot more enjoyable and entertaining than that long and pointless criticism/rant. You probably spent more time writing that than you did watching the film.

His rant may have been over the top, but he is right about the film--it started off promisingly enough and went straight down hill.

There's a monster outside my room, can I have a glass of water?

reply

Perhaps if you had Citizen Kane like expectations of the film. It was good for what it was.

I admit that I ranted a bit there but, unlike the movie, at least you didn't have to PAY to read it! All I'm saying is that for everything I heard about the movie, I felt ripped off. Do a little research and read the interviews and reviews and then you might know how I feel. And you know what, I actually did spend more time writing my criticism than I did watching the movie because I wanted it to make sense (unlike the movie)! I didn't have expectations in the league of Citizen Kane but if you're going to make a low budget B horror movie, it should at least adhere to Cinemax standards or even Sci-Fi Channel for that matter. Yes it LOOKS and SOUNDS good but that's where it ends. Excuse me for calling it like I see it. Last time I checked the Constitution, the part about free speech was still there. My little tirade wasn't supposed to be enjoyable. It should serve as a warning. I'm not telling anyone not to see it. I'm just appealing to others who may potentially share my views and may value the same things in B movie horror.

personally, i couldn't agree with Redeemer more. as my boyfriend and i read his review we were laughing about as much as we did while watching this accidental comedy. everything Redeemer commented on was something we ourselves said while watching the "film".

we agree that most lovers of horror would not enjoy this movie. the storyline was all over the place. i can only assume that some plot points were left on the cutting room floor. and the big surprize ending? we had it figured out about 15 minutes into the movie and were amazed that the characters themselves did not. the only thing good about it was the gore, and there wasn't even that much of it. and the "scary" big reveal of the creatures at the end was extremely anti-climactic. i've seen better creatures in B horror from the 70s. for me, Redeemer's review was better written and more entertaining than the movie.

I liked it. I think you's a HATER!!

you actually watched it again...? and with commentary? i forced myself understand it and clicked del.

"... watch a movie once but a good movie- twice"

I agree with that entirely.
P.S. Paragraphs are your friend, not your enemy.

I completely agree. I was terribly disappointed at the lack of expansion on the promising points and the weird way they just stuck in a sex scene for fun. I need to stop watching movies according to how neat the advertisment art is, lol. ;)

Glad I caught it on Vongo rather than renting it. That would have been a nice $3.99 better spent.

I agree with many of these comments. There are some good ideas in Headspace, but really, it all comes off like a pretentious student film. The monster stuff is too hokey, the subtext too in your face, and the acting too offbeat. Good soundtrack though.

Better luck next time.

Right on - your criticism is exactly what I thought too. The cover shows a creepy looking zombie, where was it in the film? And that guy with his stupid migraines, it was starting to gove me a migraine after ~ 30 minutes!

The best part of the movie was actually Sean Young 'turning' and getting blown away at close range - very spooky and disturbing. It turns out this scary beginning was totally wasted.

You watched it AGAIN?? Wow, I'm impressed- I coluldn't even get through it once!...And I LIKE bad horror movies! LOL

i thought the review was well written and intelligent. Why are people griefing you for expressing your views? Especially since its apparent you took the time to compose your thoughts.

Please tell us more of these pearls of wisdom mentioned on the audio track?

does the director mention what the point of the scene is where alex is in the hospital gown covered in blood sitting in the park- and how we get there from the last scene in the movie?

i saw this on cable last night and was waiting for something to really bring it all together and then it suddenly ended! granted i started drifting off once we saw the two doctors talking at the end- and then that end- i thought i missed something critical until i read the posts on the forum here.

i see i didnt miss anything but id love to know what the director thought he was making. Thanks in advance.
