Calista - Likeable or no?

I liked this movie alright. I was expecting more from the ads, and it wasn't as original as I thought it would be, but I thought it was an okay movie.

However - I wished that Calista could have been more...likeable. She seemed to me to be clingy, demanding, and self-absorbed. She expected Audrey to always be there for her, but she never encouraged Audrey to do her own thing, and it seemed like she didn't even go to Audrey's graduation. She kind of abandoned Audrey once Mookie came around (not cool - hos over bros). She either spent her time fawning over Mookie (a boy she hardly knew) or prancing around in her dresses and heels, pretending she was Miss America. She seemed to me to be vapid and kind of dim.

So did you like Calista/think she was a three dimensional character or not?

I absolutely loved this film, but I agree. I didn't find Calista very likeable, but I did feel bad for her. I saw her as a character that had alot of potential that was just brought down by MS. She doesn't think she has that much time left so she trys to hold onto Audrey, and tries to love someone (Mookie) for the first time. I didn't like her character, but I do she has layers.

.It's a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself.

NO! I found her to be extremely irritating and I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think sometimes people give a "pass" to a character (or a real live person) just b/c they are ill in some way. But if someone is annoying, they're annoying! I found a lot of her behavior to be very attention whorish. Touching an electric fence? Getting stung by bees on purpose? Bringing up how she's "DYING" all the time? And what was up with the boob shirts!?
And somehow she managed to get even more irritating when she started dating Mookie. Ughhhh.
I actually almost didn't watch the film after seeing 5 min. of this character. I'm glad I did, b/c it was a decent movie, but...

Oh yes, let's not forget the ill-fated bike ride. I felt like the whole thing was a way for her to garner more attention. No helmet? Driving a little scooter on a road where the speed limit is most likely 80? There's no way she wasn't trying to get in an accident.

I preferred her to Audrey as I found Audrey to be depressing most of the time. Yes she had a lot to deal with her father and Calista, but at least Calista was happy half the time.
