A boxing movie in a Navy uniform?

I agree with the majority of people who didn't like this film for many of the reasons already listed here. But what really bothered me was that the movie was presented as a young man trying to get through the Naval Academy but all it really seemed to be about was boxing. I felt like I was sitting through Rocky VI (or VII depending on your timelime :P) instead of a military-themed movie.

I've never been to the USNA so I can't comment but does everyone's whole world really revolve around boxing? It just seemed to hog the entire focus of the movie. I think I saw them doing academics for about 20 seconds in the entire movie.

Bleh, this was terrible.

My father went to the Naval Academy, he enjoyed this movie as well. He said that boxing is quite important, but of course there are lots of other things that people do with their time...such as the academics, which he said was the hardest part.

However, this movie is meant to be from the eyes of the few elite boxers that are recruited to go to the USNA...so it makes sense that the movie would generally focus on this activity. I thought it was a good movie, heh.

Congrats to your Dad its a hell of an accomplishment.
My Dad is USAF Ret and went to AF Academy out in CO.

I work with many USNA and NPS guys and formerly performed gov contract work for NPS. Best human souls I have ever encountered.

I guess it may be a different experience for everyone but growing up around military and going into a career field myself where I am around military-they seem to me to have a higher standard of integrity.

Probably why this movie makes me mad/sad.

I love military movies, but I too felt the same when I noticed the whole movie was about boxing. The movie trailers are VERY misleading :(

the movie isnt so much about the navy, as about Huard having this dream about getting into the naval accademy. Boxing is the part of the Navy culture that he can be apart of. It is the part of the navy where he can fit in and show that he is good enough. He might be the bottom of the barrel for intelligence, but the movie shows how his determination can make him someone great. Also, whoes gonna watch a movie about the naval accademy that takes place only in the classroom.

Yeah, I too was watching and began to think, "wasn't this a Navy movie, what happened."

The movie couldn't seem to make up its mind what it wanted the plot to be. It had about ten different sub-plots flying around.

"Ninja monkeys are meeting as we speak, plotting my demise."
