Why don't they explore OUR planet first!!!

Throughout the entire documentary, you have all these very educated people, saying very stupid things! Like..."we don't know very much about our oceans but we can "practice" maneuvers in them so we can rocket to other planets to do exstensive studies there!"! What is wrong with us? We need to respect and tend to this planet before we go and trash another! And why haven't we done exstensive research of our oceans? Why is there such contempt for our own planet?
