why were the soviets taunting with afghans

there's one scene where the soviets and mujahadeen chatting and the mujahadeen was like "i F'ed your mother father brother sister etc..."

why were they taunting each other instead of fighting? were they just bored?

That's what you do in war.

It was so he could give the dukh a concert by his favorite group AC/DC.

Reminds me of a slightly more germane exchange between the Japanese and Australians during the Kokoda campaign in WWII. An English-speaking Japanese soldier sang a nasty version of an English nursery rhyme that defamed the Anglo-Saxon peoples. The Japanese then yelled: "You don't 'fancy that' do you?"
An Australian replied; "Never heard worse." Then they lobbed a mortar onto the Japanese position.

Taunting is not uncommon in any war.
