...the most confusing thing in a long time. starts out as a drama, continues with cheesy 80's music and quotes from critics that call the movie "insanely funny" (or something like that) and ends like a horror movie. WTF???
"We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school"
Perhaps the people who edited the trailer had a hard time trying to portray the movie. I watched the trailer after watching the movie and I can see why you're so confused. It's really a satirical drama, but basically the story is:
These two bullies decide to burn down a treehouse that belongs to identical twins and 2 friends. One of the twins dies in the fire and the bullies get sent to juvenile hall. All the kids in the aftermath deal with the pain of losing their friend/brother in different ways. Without spoiling it: The girl pursues a relationship The overweight kid becomes inspired The identical twin visits the bullies.
I wouldn't really call the movie funny. It tried to be, but it's so much more of a serious movie that the humor of one of the story arcs was kinda dry and a little unnecessary, but they didn't go over the top with it, so it's very tolerable. In fact, I just took it as how those people lived.
I really enjoyed it. Not a lot of action, and could be considered slow, but when the story is following 3 different kids, not one story arc drags on for too long, which kept my attention and interest.
