If I had a kid who was killed by other kids...

...even in the circumstances shown in this film, I'd seriously consider killing them. However, I think I'd just torture them but keep them alive. Don't worry not like Saw, but in a sociopathic way. I'd kinda' do what Two Face (forgot his name) did to start with. Visit and just scare them verbally and show photos and stuff. Then I'd start doing loadsa' scary $hit... don't know what really. But no way would I let them get away with it. Even if they were like 8 years old. Any younger than 8 I suppose I would, as kids as young as that can't really contemplate such things.

...let's try and, let's try and, let's try and... let's make this precious!

I think the problem I have with your view...is that you seem to be drawing a parallel between kids intentionally killing other kids, and kids trying to one up each other and having a tragic outcome.

I couldn't kill kids for something like this, and I certainly couldn't resort to torturing them.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't have more sympathy for Kenny. He obviously didn't realize that Rudy and Leonard were in the treehouse, and when he did, he tried to help Leonard and was horrified when it because clear that Rudy was still inside.

He serves his time...but his Mother is obviously uncaring and apathetic, and his Father is absent. The only reason he's there with Jacob in the first place...is to honor what he believes are Jacob's wishes...so I did not like that Jacob kills him...

...or the implication in the end that Jacob will get away with it because no one cares enough about Kenny to even notice that he's missing...and he's buried under concrete!

The difference between Jacob and Kenny in the end is that everything that Kenny was responsible for...was unintentional, and he fessed up to what he did and served his time. Jacob is guilty in the end...and deserves a stiffer punishment...but not really because he ultimately was the hand of his Mother, and nothing more!
