I went there when I was in Australia - it's magic. With their dark backs you don't really see them in the water, and then all of a sudden, they appear on the beach as if the surf had all turned into little birds. Also, despite all the people, there was no sound but that of their tiny feet as they rushed up the hill. 😀

When I was there, they were still called 'fairy penguins' - since then they have been renamed 'little penguins' or 'blue penguins'...in a PC gone mad effort not to offend the gay community. 

I was wondering what the etiquette was in the UK, so I went googling and found this:

* Fork stays TINES DOWN. If eating something you might be tempted to scoop, you sort of squash it on to the fork with your knife.

I don’t remember that. I loved Sharpe. One of my favourite scenes was when Sharpe pushed a evil character played by Mark Strong down a well. It was Harper’s reaction as well when questioned about it.

I think I remember that one. What was it that Harper said - something along the line 'what an odd man, jumping down the well like that?' 😀

I also loved the various intelligence officers - and the scene when Sharpe asks the Scottish guards outside the bagpipe playing officers' tent how they can stand the infernal noise, only to find that they've fashioned themselves earplugs.  Real good fun, that show. 

The poem is in memory of his sister who died at age 10, when he was 12 years old. It's very sad, but indeed beautiful. There is some speculation that she was also his inspiration for Virginia in The Canterville Ghost.
