Vengeance 2004 Review

The Raw brand represents WWE Vengeance 2004. This show took place on July 11th from Hartford CT. JR and King on commentary as always.


Match #1

Tag Team Match

Tajiri And ?????? Vs Garrison Cade And The Coach


So the backstory package we get is Eugene was made GM for a day and Tajiri got pissed at Coach in a game of musical chairs and misted him.....(sigh) I have no intention of enjoying a match with THAT kind of story and I dislike watching Coach in ANY match. Tajiri picks Rhyno as his partner. Rhyno starts with Cade as Coach tags out like a puss. Cade jaws at the ref then slaps Rhyno, and gets his ass kicked. Rhyno hiptosses him and sets up for the goar, but Cade ducks out of the ring to escape. Back in Tajiri gets a dropkick to the knee. Majastral cradle gets 2. Coach gets a cheapshot to turn the tide and Cade hits Tajiri with a belly to back suplex and chokes him. Coach comes in and gets some wussy shots on Tajiri's back before being kicked in the head for being a smartass. Cade and Coach get a double suplex on Tajiri for 2. Coach gets caught with the Tarantula then Tajiri makes the hot tag to Rhyno. He suplexes Coach and backdrops Cade, and gets a belly to belly on Coach for 2. Usual breakdown and Tajiri with a handspring elbow on both heels. Cade gets mist and Rhyno tries goring Coach who sidesteps and Cade is knocked out. Tajiri buzzkicks Coach and pins him at 7:17. Ill be nice and give everybody except Coach a 1/2 star. 1 1/2 star.


Match #2

Singles Match

Chris Jericho Vs Batista


Batista beats Jericho in the corner. Blindcharge and he's out on the floor. Jericho follows with the springboard dropkick and tries a baseball slide but misses. Batista hammers him outside. Back in, Batista drops a knee and gets a neckbreaker for 2. He tries a full nelson, but Jericho fights out, only to get put back in the full nelson. Jericho sends him to the floor to break again, and he dropkicks the knee. They go up, where Jericho knocks Batista down again and follows with an elbow for 2. Jericho walks into a sideslam that gets 2. Batista works the back. Backbreaker gets 2. Jeircho escape a slam attempt and tries the walls but gets kicked off. Jericho runs into a spinebuster for 2. Batista goes for the bomb but Jericho gets free and rolls him up for 2. Batista charge hits boot and Jericho follows with a bulldog, then they sorta screw up the lionsault. Batista misses a clothesline and Jericho with the enzuigiri for 2. Batista gives him another spinebuster and finishes with the bomb at 12:50. Jericho's foot was on the ropes but the ref missed it. 2 stars.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match

La Resistance Vs The Nature Boy Ric Flair And Eugene


So HHH has been sucking up to the retard making him an honorary member of Evolution and even letting him wear one of Flair's robes to the ring, much to Flair's dismay. There's $4 grand in the trash at the end of the night. Eugene starts with Conway and whoo's And styling and profiling. Eugene with a hiptoss and Conway tags. Grenier comes in, only to get beat up by Eugene using Flair's lame moveset. Grenier backdrops him out of the corner, so Eugene uses one of Flair's last good moves, a thumb to the eye and Flair goes nuts because his fighting style is only being used by a retard as of this moment. It's funny stuff. Conway comes back in knocks Eugene into a Flair flop. Figure four attempt is countered by Conway, and Flair finally tags and doe the same stuff, chopping and strutting. Flair chops everyone and slugs Conway down into the corner, then drops a knee on Grenier and chops Conway down. ertical suplex and NOW WE GO TO SCHOOL! Grenier breaks up the figure four attempt and they beat on Flair in their corner. Grenier backdrops him out of the corner for 2. Eugene wants a tag, but Grenier pullls him off the apron to prevent that. Eugene goes nuts as La Resistance gives Flair Au Revoir and he runs in and beats up both guys and shoves the ref drawing a lame dq at 12:31, then rock bottom and stone cold stunner to the heels followed by the burden of the peoples elbow. Just a comedy match, but it was pretty okay. 1 1/2 star.


Match #4

Singles Match

Kane Vs Matt Hardy


Here is another abysmal storyline. Kane abducts Lita, rapes her, she gets pregnant then sometime after this match she falls for Kane and Kane becomes a good guy when Snitsky costs the rape child to die. This is in my top 10 worst storylines ever. Matt attacks to start and sends Kane into the post and hits him with a monitor. They fight onto the Spanish table but Kane blocks a twist of fate and throws Matt to the railing. They head into the crowd and back to the ring where Kane chokes him down. Matt rolls out to escape, but Kane follows with a short arm clothesline and tosses him back in. Sideslam gets 2. Kane hammers him into the corner. Matt fights out but Kane beats on him out of the ring and then back in again, and goes up and hits the flying clothesline, and Kane yells at Matt to fight back. Matt tries and gets pummeled. Matt tries using a chair, but gets booted down. Kane grabs the chair, but Matt necksnaps him and knocks him off the apron. Kane winds up tied feet first in the ropes and Matt hits him with the ring bell. Matt with the second rope legdrop gets 2. Twist of Fate only gets 2. Situp, chokeslam, and Lita runs out as Kane tries using the steel steps and he gets distracted long enough for Matt to use a chair to knock the steps down on him and pin him at 10:33. Matt wines about her chancing getting hurt postmatch. 2 stars.


Match #5

Intercontinental Championship Match

Randy Orton Vs Edge


They fight over a lockup and the crowd seems to be behind Orton. They do a criss cross, which Edge wins, and he goes to a headlock. Another criss cross, and Edge overpowers him again, and this time Orton bails. Edge chases him back in, but gets thrown out for his effort. Orton suplexes him back in for 2. Edge clotheslines him to the floor, where Orton grabs his title for no reason. Edge baseball slides it out of his hands and follows with a clothesline from the apron. Back in, Edge hits him with a missile dropkick for 2. The spear is countered with a high knee and Orton gets the neckbreaker for 2. Edge crawls to the apron, so Orton works on the neck. Legdrop gets 2. Edge fires back with some forearms, but Orton drops him with a knee and chokes him with it. He goes to his time tested chinlock to kill a few moments. Edge fights out and gets a crossbody for 2, but Orton clotheslines him down again. Orton goes up but lands on an Edge dropkick. Edge neckbreaker and it’s a double KO. Edge recovers first and they slug it out and an Edge legsweep for 2. Orton misses a dropkick and Edge catapults him into the corner, setting up the edge o matic for 2. He goes up, but Orton follows, only to get knocked off in bit of a botch. Edge with a high cross, but Orton rolls through for 2 and a thumb to the eye to give Orton the advantage. Orton exposes a turnbuckle, but Edge cradles for 2. Orton rolls him up for 2. Standing dropkick gets 2. Edge comes back with the Implant for 2. Orton hotshots him and rolls him up for 2. RKO is blocked, and the spear is dodged by Orton. Another try at the RKO is reversed to a backslide for 2. Irony strikes as Orton gets sent into the exposed turnbuckle, and the spear finishes him at a long 26:38 to give Edge the I-C title. Long match. The beginning was dragging but got better at the second half. Ill go 3 stars.


Match #7

Womens Match

Victoria Vs Molly


Molly works the arm and Victoria comes back with a monkeyflip but stops to do her stupid dance number and Molly rolls her up for 2. Victoria with a hiptoss and armdrag, and a moonsault press for 2. Molly is wrestling with a goofy blonde wig tonight. Victoria follows with a pescado, but Molly retaliates by sending her hard into the steps. Back in, Molly works on the shoulder and gets the handspring elbow for 2. Armbar and Molly takes her down with a Fujiwara armbar. Victoria slugs back, so Molly drops her arm on the top rope and Victoria comes back with a rollup for 2. Backslide gets 2. Victoria with a back elbow but it's the bad arm so she hurts herself. She follows with a powerslam off the ropes for 2. Widow’s peak is stopped by the injury but she immediately follows up with a stiff crescent kick for the pin at 6:20ish. Hey, a good womens match! 2 stars.


Match #8

Raw Championship Match

Chris Benoit Vs HHH


Benoit backdrops him into the crossface, and HHH bails. Benoit follows him out and they brawl. Back in, HHH catches him with a high knee and follows with a suplex, but Benoit gives him the chops to break momentum. HHH drops him with a back elbow for 2. Backbreaker and HHH sends him out with a drop toehold. HHH starts working on the back, and Benoit chops back. Snap suplex, but Benoit runs into an elbow. He recovers with a german suplex, and HHH tries to block, so Benoit catapults him into the corner and clotheslines him to the floor. Benoit sends HHH into the stairs and back in and Benoit misses the flying headbutt. HHH sends Benoit to the corner and he does the Bret Hart bump x3. HHH drops some knees and follows with a forward drop suplex for 2. Another one gets 2. He goes to a surfboard and Benoit tries to power out, so HHH tosses him and whips him into the railing. Abdominal stretch but Benoit counters so HHH hiptosses out. HHH with the pushkill sleeper but that won't work on Benoit. Benoit reverses to own, and then escapes a suplex attempt and tries the Sharpshooter, but HHH powers out. Benoit fights off the pedigree attempt and gets the sharpshooter again, but HHH gets the ropes. Benoit hits the multi german suplexes. HHH rolls outside and Benoit follows with a tope suicida. Back in the ref gets conked and Eugene shows up but doesn't know who to help. Benoit crossface and he yells at Eugene to wake up the ref but Eugene is confused of course so Benoit releases the old and decks him. Looking back it's awkward to watch Benoit beat up a retarded kid. HHH ballshot and pedigree. Eugene gets the ref because he's mad at Benoit but it's only a 2 and 3/4ths. HHH tells Eugene to get a chair, but Eugene grabs it away when he goes to smack Benoit and HHH knocks him off the apron. Benoit hits something and you hear a chairshot but I sure as hell didn't see exactly who got smacked with it when they collided. Eugene grabs the chair and goes to smack Benoit and the crowd booe's, he goes to smack HHH and the crowd booe's. Benoit has a tug of war with the chair and HHH walks up behind Eugene as Benoit let's go and Eugene bonks HHH silly so Benoit can roll him up at 29 minutes to retain. 3 stars.


Overall Opinion: This show was a hell of alot better than Judgement Day and Great American Bash


Final Score: This ppv scores a 4.1 star rating out of a perfect 10. Not a blockbuster show but after sitting through the last two shmoz shows, this one was good.
