Question about main character's action

In two scenes when the main character is standing in front of a mirror he makes a "aaaa" "aaaa" sound. What is the significance of this? Thanks.

To me it comes across as trying to make certain he's actually there. Remember how there's this conversation about being real.
Hiroshi lost his memory and has trouble distinguishing reality from dreams.

That said I do feel the scenes with Ryoko dancing are some kind of interaction with the afterlife and her actual soul.

the "noise" he made was him saying "where are you?", he was saying it after her last appearance, same sound. I think when he was looking in the mirror he was away with her.

I thought it was quite a beautiful film, well shot and the main character was fantastic, for all that he didnt do. But I think that maybe beacause he was so close to her body, that he was able to re-live her happiest time with her? As it mentioned towards the end, there was some legend that said when you died you got to re-live a certain period of your life, and hers was time with him.

Made me smile, another great film from Tsukamoto
