comment and goof

First, my mini-review of the movie. I was not expecting much and was therefore pleasantly surprised. Yes, the plot is predictable and derivative, and there are too many anachronisms, particularly musically, but all the performances were quite good, the score and choreography terrific (and let me say here that I am a Caucasian granny who doesn't like rap), the direction and production design creative. Also, something I see far too rarely in movies -- the characters matured; they grew as the plot developed. This is not the two-dimensional movie I was expecting to see; it is "Chicago" with [a] soul (and I saw the original Broadway production of "Chicago" with Jerry Orbach, Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera).

Alas, one of the more obvious goofs (spoiler alert!): Sally's tombstone is engraved (1914-1935) but Prohibition -- the era in which the movie is set -- ended in December 1933.

Good point re dates because I wondered the same thing!
I was also curious as to the year the film was set (I only knew that it was obviously set during the Prohibition era) & I can only presume that several years must have passed as regards the film's storyline because about 30 minutes into this film (when the family are going into town for the shopping as he "promised" his wife) a huge banner over the road says "Saturday:June 13th" advertising some forthcoming event & as per history books that would have made the date 1931 then.......
Also I noticed in Rose's apartment that there was a picture on her mantlepiece that looked very like blonde starlet Jean Harlow who was of course one of the fastest rising stars of 1931.
Hope this helps!

In Georgia, prohibition was not repealed until 1935:
