What is it with YOU people?

And when I say you people, I'm talking about bigots. People bashing a movie they haven't even seen and probably will never see. I saw another movie the other day too. My roommate rented Nanny McPhee. It didn't have any black people in it. No problem with me. It wasn't historically accurate. Well WHOOPTY-FREAKING-DOO!!! People, movies are made for entertainment purposes. Even in some biopics the truth is stretched to make for a more entertaining story. What part of the Idlewild trailer screamed historical biography of Idlewild, Michigan or edge-of-your-seat thriller? Was it the part with the talking cuckoo clock? The Idlewild in this movie, Idlewild, Georgia is an imaginary place filled with imaginary people. Unless anyone has a copy of the Percival Jenkins album. The main reason people get upset with movies anyway is because usually they go and see the wrong movie. For instance if you are not a fan of black comedians why would you go and see "The Original Kings of Comedy" and then complain that it's nothing like the 1983 Jerry Lewis film of a similar name. Idlewild is a movie that told a story that was entertaining enough to be taken in by people who had never heard an OutKast album, but for those of us who had, I think it felt like an live action album. It is purely a work of art.

Amen.

I'm with the OP...this movie was a fantasy and if the people who came to this board to bash it could have rememered that, they might not have been so quick to pick this movie apart.

A man after my own heart... kudos.

Art is a matter of opinion, a matter of sight... It amazes me that everyone is so quick to bash this movie, coming up with various excuses in regards to language, historical accuracy, etc.

Negativity is like a flu, especially in the black community. It seems to blow up into hate...

I know there were somethings that I didn't like about Idlewild, but I can name some things that made me laugh or smile... Can't you haters?

If the movie was that bad, why didn't you leave the theater and ask for a refund? Was it because during the movie, something enjoyable kept you in your seat? Was it because there was something a little different, yet the same that filled your expectations?

Is Idlewild, Georgia imaginary? There's an Idylwilde, GA not too far from Augusta. There's also an Allman Brothers Band album entitled Idlewild South. Even though I find Outkast giving shout outs to The Allman Brothers kinda far fetched.

Anyone know if it ever existed?

reply

There's a Scottish rock band named Idlewild. According to Wikipedia, they named their band after a place called Idlewild in the book 'Anne of Green Gables'. Might be related...

What is it with you?!
Reading this post boggles my mind. you just hate that white people are automatically against this movie? Is that what you mean? Just trying to understand.
You start to make a point then start babbling about Nanny McFee & you lost me.In fact there isnt even a coherent sentence in your post. You're going off about 4 different topics at the same time. Just make your point & stick with that topic.

Hey bob did you do anything other than to comment on someone's level of inteligence or capacity to master the English language. His point was quite evident. His entire post was about the negativity that people throw around for superficial reasons. Your post is quit superficial and useless. Btw. I’ve already commented about the film. I liked it. If you don't than hey, that’s you. But don't hate it for blind reasons and pure hatred of another’s culture.

No what I don't like is people of any color finding fault with a movie just because of racial issues. I was citing Nanny McPhee as a reference because people's first complaints are: "Black people didn't live like that back then" or "People didn't listen to hip-hop" Well no sh!t, Sherlock! It's a fantasy much like Nanny McPhee (Or even "Friends" where they managed to walk around New York City for damn near five years without coming into contact with black people! :) )

Basically BobCH88, I apologize if you found my comments mind-boggling but you see,

"I talk a little fast, but if you listen a little fast I don't have to slow down for you to catch up. hahahahaha."

you love these boards, but you're a racist. that's awesome, you're the reason america's not a good place to have love for your heritage (and i don't mean waving a mexican flag and asking for U.S. Rights, i'm talking about running a hispanic food restaurant in Tennessee, or a black church in Mississippi).

pointless.

I just saw this movie and it was the funniest piece of crap in the
world. the music was cool, but i do not understand how someone as fly
as andre or big boi could stand behind this. Did you see the scene with
Andre and the girl in the rain where she has no shoes on?? HAH
funniest thing of all time. I highly recommend seeing this film, i was
in a weird mood before i saw it, and i laughed during all the points i
wasn't sleeping.AWESOMELY HORRIBLE!!!!

reply

I agree with you totally. This film is a work of art. I'm just sorry so
few saw it or that some who did just couldn't wrap their minds around it (just like Moulin Rouge was also a work of art). I will own it dvd for sure.

Hey NappyPappy
Not too badd on the comments. Good *beep*
But I saw this movie Idlewild and I was thouroughly disappointed. It was the Directing I believe, and a lil bit of the acting. They should have added a line that touched on how 'special' this "new unheard-of sound" is, that Rooster has, that everyone loves and dances to. Why IT packs the club so. It would have helped to move the story along and make the fantasy more palatable.
Aside from Terrence Howard, (& Cicily Tyson) The acting was pretty sub par. Even surprisingly from Faizon Love, whose always great. This movie is loud, busy, lacks clear direction & conviction. Director Brian Barber needs to sharpen and graduate his skills as a film director greatly. He should consider a co-director next time.
