Wow. What a poetic death
One of the most poetic and beautiful death scenes that I saw on screen.

oops. i didnt said that he died.
its an open ending...
I'm glad the movie is finally released in the States....
shareI agree, a beautiful poetic death.
shareI wonder if you guys could think of an alternative ending?
He's cured and goes back to Sasha; Meets his son several years later?
20 years later Sasha is at a party and sees Romain's son, who looks just like him....
shareInteresting....Or maybe the adoptive parents were actually not as loving as Romain thought, and he had to rescue the son from an abusive and destructive family. But to do so legally, he would have to be married and he went on a quest to find the perfect one to fulfill this role, for real....
shareHe goes to the toilet and tries to push one out too hard, then he pops a vein and dies.
Wouldn't it be cool if the ending goes like this?....
At the end of the movie, after the sun sets upon Romain's face...the screen fades to black...and then a few seconds later,it's suddenly bright again and we see both of Romain's eyes...close up...then we hear someone say...."OPEN YOUR EYES"...then the eyes open...then cut to credits...haha
No, it would not!
shareWhether Romain dies or not in the beach, is kinda irrelevant. But that ending is one of the most beautiful, touching and poetic ones I have ever seen. It reminded me the best of Kieslowski.
I enjoyed the entire movie but that final shot, with the sun dying while Romain is probably dying as well, it was pure poetry. For scenes like this is why I love movies. Merci monsieur Ozon!
Indeed a most beautiful and poetic scene.
Check out Pasolini's "Death in Venice." It will look familiar
shareDeath In Venice WAS DIRECTED BY Visconti
Death is not poetic at all...
We are cut, we are fallen. We are become part of that unfeeling universe that sleeps when we are at our quickest and burns red when we lie asleep. We have renounced our station and lie now flat, withered and how soon forgotten!
