Wasn't very clear, or I missed this. In the childhood play scenes was that Sasha playing with Romain or was that a different boy altogether?

yes that was sasha. he was remembering the time's they had feelings for each other back when they were children because at the time he was remembering he was beginning to loose feelings even sexual with sasha

i don't think so, there's clearly a bigger age gap.

la_montespan is correct about the significant age difference between Romain and Sasha, which Sasha acknowledges when he approves Romain's apparent choosing of a new lover of his own age. Besides, Romain's childhood friend was named Laurent, played in the movie by Victor Poulouin.
