A balanced opinion

Just caught R-Point on E4, like many posts about the film its deinately a love or hater. The main bad points abou the film is that it seem to drag a little in the middle in that bloody house and there was too much emphasis on the hysterical grunts even though it did not contain a trully terrifying moment it seemed they were totally spooked up before the weired s**t even started to happen. The movie really picked up towards the end when it started to unravel and the paranoid shoot fest began and the now stock asian horror use of zombified ghost girl al la the grudge, the ring et al. The biggest gripe about the whole film was that it seemed way too americanised in the dialoge, at times it seemed like an episode of tour of duty i just didnt buy the way they were south vietnamese soldiers when they taked in such a westernised (alomost american) manner, even the the Lt. looked like an asian Martin Sheen.
On the other hand the film was very well made, totally atmospheric and the locations were stunning, battle scenes had the same stark realism to satisfy a confirmed 'Nam addict' like myself. Overall quite pleasing, apart from it not being too scary it was a satisfying late night watch.

The soundtrack was totally gash, obviously in Vietnam the synthesiser still rules supreme.
