Real Kid? or Real Good Acting?

I'm thoroughly confused, did the kid have CP, or was it an actor? If anyone knows, please...Enlighted us.

reply

He really has cerebal palsy and he really is the neighbor of Tom Arnold.

reply

That's what I thought, as somebody who has CP, I can say that if he didn't have it, he'd have to be a better actor then almost anyone EVER to pull off the movment, mannerisms, etc. so well.

reply

Thanks

reply

I know this is politically incorrect, but how desperate is Tom Arnold that he's grabbing his CP neighbor to starr in his movies?

reply

The movie is something he's doing for the kid, not with the kid.

reply

I think he means in real life.

reply

Yeah sure... "For the kid"... I guess he's financing the whole enterpise then eh? No? But he's not taking a cent from the box office then right? No?

Well now...

Still, Arnold did okay in True Lies, so yeah... Whatever. Hey look! Two Arnolds in one film! What are the odds?

reply

It started off as just a little thing Tom Arnold wanted to do for his neighbour. When He told some of his other neighbors about it (Shaq) a lot of them thought it was a great and sweet idea. Who cares if he makes a little money off of it? I'm sure the kid will be happy whether it succeds or fails.

Sometimes I feel like an idiot. But I am an idiot, so it kinda works out.

reply

The kid with CP wanted to be a movie star, but is obvioullsy limited. His father (wealthy) decided to fund a movie starring his kid and give him his wish. Tom Arnold signed on as a neighbor and so did a few other people, wishing to do something nice for a kid with a dream and a disabilty. Was nice of the actors and was a tremendous cost to his father. Touching story. I work in the industry and was told this story. Seems like a nice gesture by all involved.

reply

...And it made a very heartwarming film, so who really cares why/how it was made?

reply

He's Tom's neighbor? I thought Eric is from Holland, MI? I'm from Grand Rapids, so I'm curious.

reply

I believe that's where he's from, but not where he lives currently.

Then you need to get your ears cleaned. The kid IS Tom's neighbor and he IS suffering from CP... One of the reason Tom made this film is to get that kid laid (or something... Tom said something about a hot tub full of girls with the kid).

It is his real neighbor dude.

Let's Go True Lies 2!

No Tom does not change his story to suit the interview he is doing. The kid is really his next door neighbor not based on the neighbor. You can read an article in Readers Digest that Tom wrote stating why he wanted to do this movie and how this kid has helped make a difference in his life. He did this movie to give the kid back some of the happiness he had given Tom, so Tom thought the lest he could do was write a movie for the kid to star in with him. Go to www.readersdigest.com and it is in the November issue if I rember right.

reply

As I said, time to get that ear examination. I too, saw that episode of Conan O'Brian and Tom said it in plain English; he's doing it for the kid and the kid is his neighbor.

Yeah, I'm a little confused regarding all this. When I first read these posts I was surprised y'all were reporting that this was Tom's actual neighbor because I just watched the Tony Danza show and the kid himself said he turned on the TV one day when he was younger and saw Rosie O'Donnell and Tom Arnold and said to himself that one day he was going to star in a movie and meet all these people on tv.

So I thought, if he's Tom's neighbor and they are so close, why would he have said that??? But perhaps I'm getting this all a bit mixed up....

Anybody with the real scoop able to clarify please?

How hard is it for you people!?

* The actual kid in the movie is Tom's real neighbor, and he does have Cerebal Palsy
* Tom made this movie, because the kid's father said that his son really wanted to be in a movie.
* This is a real/unreal movie. Tom Arnold wrote it and got a bunch of people to star in it. The movie is just like real life, the kid's father tells a Tom Arnold like character that he wants a movie made for his son, but the kid has Ceberal Palsy. The character in the movie knows alot of people to help get it made, and that is how the real movie inside a movie got made.

Any other questions people???

Let's go True Lies 2!

Ahh... Reminds me of the movie "Adaptation"...

I went to high school with Eric Gores, I graduated a year behind him, and to clear up any confusion, the situation was just like they said in the movie, he stayed with his mom during the school year, and then with his dad all summer in cali. he lived between shaq and tom arnold, so he knew them well, and was aquainted with other stars as well. eric wanted to be in a movie, however i believe that tom arnold was so touched by erics spirit and friendship that he wanted to do this for him, and erics dad funded much of it. there you go.

reply

It is really his neighbor I have seen several interviews with both the Eric Gores and Tom Arnold and they discuss how they met and that Eric always wanted to do a movie.

reply

"The kid in the movie is not his neighbor. The kid in the movie is an playing a character based on the neighbor.
My ears are fine you idiot.

Arthur"

No, like sth128 said; you need to get your ears cleaned out. I have also seen the Conan O'Brien interview your talking about, and the kid in the movie is really Tom's neighbor...and really has CP. Now, in real life tom is friends with this kid, and the kid has wanted to be in a movie. The kids father paid Tom to write a movie for him to star in...now it doesn't really make any since, if it's the kids dream to star in a movie to have somebody other them him play himself. How you got that the kid in this movie isn't really his neighbor I will never know. Because both Tom and Conan talk about this for some time. And how cool it was to make this kids dream come true. Maybe your just retarded...I don't know.

Man, you're just like my x-wife... NEVER wrong, even in the face of reality. You can have reality shoved right down your throat and you still won't budge.

Dude, you're WRONG! Face it, get over it. Be a MAN and admit it.

You know... you're really starting to freak me out how you are stalking me. I didnt even realize it until I checked my profile for the first time in nearly two months and saw that you responded to basically everything I have ever wrote.

Please... get help.

reply

eric graduated the year before me at west ottawa and his parents are divorced and he lived with his mom here, and his dad lived in cali next to tom and shaq, and he would spend summers there, and the rest of the time in holland with his mom.

reply

Guy at work you are 100% correct. I am Eric's Cousin and it's something he always wanted so his father who is a self made billionaire funded the project. Eric grew very close to Tom as a neighbor and they asked him to hlep out and do it with him.

reply

The Kid's father actually bankrolled most of the film according to Penelope Spheeris.

Ever seen Chaindance? aka "Common Bonds".
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099236/

First time I saw it I had no idea that Brad Dourif was the guy that did the voice for "Chucky", and I seriously thought they had a guy with CP play the part, that guy is an amazing actor.
Good movie too, a "hardened criminal learns other people have feelings" story.

Cheers.

It's his real neighbhor. There was an article in Reader;s Digest about the whole thing a few months back. Technically (if I remember correctly) the idea of being an action hero was the kids idea, and he wanted to be the guy who gets the girl in the. The kid's father, who is very wealthy, funded a movie and Tom Arnold agreed to star with Eric (if that's his name). You might be able to find the issue of Reader's Digest in a library or something, but it was an interview with Tom Arnold.

reply

He's right. Eric went to my school and after he graduated he went to live with his dad in California. His neighbors are Tom Arnold and Shaq. There was a thing about them being his neighbors in our yearbook the year he graduated. His sister,Lauren,is really good friends with one of the Olsen twins too. I don't know WHAT they were doing in Michigan. Holland no less. But in Michigan they did live.

reply

ok everybody. i just wanted to set the record straight. i know eric gores, he is a personal friend of mine, probably the sweetest kid one will ever meet. i too have met tom arnold on multiple occasions as he is a mutual friend. eric IS currently his neighbor.
Just wanted to clarify.

Also this sounds very believable. Do us a favour, just don't speak at all.

Hi everyone. I just got a screener copy in the mail of The Kid & I the other day (I own a small store that sells and rents movies, so they always send me screeners of indie films, horror movies, etc.) which I just got through watching with my wife this morning. Anyhow, really wonderful movie which the description on the back of the package didn't really do justice. Anyway, on to the point. I looked into this by checking around the internet and came across Eric Gore's website which contains copies of 5 of the different articles about the movie and interviews with Tom Arnold. Based on that, this is the conclusion I reached, which I think might clarify the situation.

1) Eric Gores IS Tom Arnold's neighbor. (or at least was during the film's making)

2) The CHARACTER in the movie is NOT his neighbor but somewhat based on him. The actor playing him is the neighbor kid who wanted to be an actor.

Anyway, I think this could be plausible given either statement said in interviews about him being or not being his neighbor.

The kid IS his neighbor, and he does have cerebral palsy.
So, quit the girlie arguing, and go do something important.
