Why was this removed on ebay?

About 3-4 weeks ago, I searched on ebay for this, and there was tons of DVD's for sale. I figured I'd wait a bit and a week go I checked again and there's none for sale. I can't even find one copy. All I found was 2 posters.

Anyone know why tons of dvd's would disappear on ebay?

reply

Could that mean Region-1 rights have been bought up? The ebay DVDs may NOT have been intended for the international market (e.g. the Chinese-subtitled DVDs released in China).

So in other words, it's been licensed and coming to USA soon...hence no ebay dvd's so they make more money? Am I close? Lol just trying to understand :)

reply

Hence the ebay copies were pirated

Considering how recent this film is, I would believe that the DVDs on eBay were pirated copies.

This is off topic but the sampo is a mere empty box? I know that it was never really explained just wat da heck it is in the kalevala and I do understand the philosophy behind having it as an empty box but...an empty box sort of disappointed me a little :(

From the movie (don't know about the Kalevala), the sampo seem to be some kind of "wishing" box-- what it releases depend of the wish/ hope of the person opening it, though that wish/ hope can be "influenced/ perverted" by circumstances or another person (like the demon).

But considering that the smiths (Kai/ Sintai, his father, etc.) can make and open the sampo-- doesn't that give them power of unlimited wishes...? ;)

SPOILERS

Actually, the original sampo forged by Sintai's father is the huge metal object/ platform the demon is sitting on but couldn't open-- Sintai's casket is just a sort of "mini-sampo" his father gave him to help him when "all hope is lost" (as written on the casket).

When Sintai first opened the casket, his (last/ only) wish/ hope is to be re-incarnated so that he gets a 2nd chance with Pin Yu (like maybe meet Pin Yu before Cho), so the casket "fulfills" his wish/ hope by serving as an empty vessel to trap the demon forever-- which would also trap Sintai in the cycle of re-incarnation.

I think director doesn't explain this latter part because it's quite obvious as re-incarnation stories goes (which are sort-of a sub-genre of supernatural stories), but as to how/ why the smiths can forge such "wishing" boxes, etc.-- I have absolutely no idea (maybe see the Kalavela?).

thank you, I guess that is pretty much the right answer. It is not a mere empty box I suppose, the demon brought forth hell from it (almost). But initially I thought it was through the demon's own power that hell was brought forth, but I watched the movie again and I got it.

Oh, and the Kalevala doesn't really tell you why the smith, whose name is Ilmarinen, could forge the sampo, other than the fact that he's the son (or the student, I forgot) of the great wizard Väinämöinen, who knew lots of magical spells.

Sampo in kalevala is this some sort of mill that gives the owner endless amount of salt, flour and gold out of thin air.

Sampo in Kalevala is an device that creates gold, baking powder and salt.

I think they vanished because in dec 2006 the copies that were for sale were a con i bid on and won one of them and shortly after(within 2weeks)the seller disappeared off Ebay completely that would have been about the 18/20 dec i never did receive my dvd so had to bite the bullet and accept the loss, ive since bought an excellent copy from the USA which im very happy with....
