Any of these three actors for each role I think would work wonders as would the these three directors, composers, and screenwriters. Let me know what you think.
Directors- Darren Lynn Bousman(Saw III), Joe Carnahan(Smoking Aces), or Kurt Wimmer(Equilibrium)
Screenwriters- David Benioff(Troy), Roger Avery(Silent Hill), or William Monohan(The Departed)
Composers- Tlyer Bates(300), Hans Zimmer(Gladiator), or Klaus Badelt(Pirates of teh Carrabian: The Curse of the Black Pearl)
Kratos- Johnny Messner(Running Scared), Domonic Purcell(Prison Break), or Til Schweiger(King Arthur)
Ares- Kurt Russell(Grindhouse), Vincent Regen(300), or Tom Sizemore(Saving Private Ryan)
Athena- Liv Tyler(The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King), Jessica Alba(Sin City), or Samantha Mathis(The Punisher)
Zeus- Brandon Gleeson(Dark Blue), Billy Connolly(The Last Samurai), or Tom Wilkinson(Batman Begins)
Posiedon- Liam Neeson(Kingdom of Heaven), Geoffery Rush(Pirates of the Carrabian:At Worlds End), or Sam Neill(Jurassic Park)
Hades- David Duchovney (The X-Files), Edward Burns(Saving Private Ryan), or Tyler Mane (X-Men)
Aphrodite- Diane Kruger(National Treasure), Rahda Mitchell(Silent Hill), or Lena Hardy(300)

Director- Christopher Nolan(memento, batman begins, the prestige)/ Zack Snyder with the help of Frank Miller(300)

Kratos- Nathan Jones(small parts in troy and fearless)/ Vin Diesel(we all know him) / Some unknown big, bald monster that can act

Ares- Gerard Butler(300)/ Christian Bale(we all know him)/ Hugh Jackman(we all know him)/ Hugo Weaving(The matrix)

Athena- Alexis Bledel(sin city)/ Maria Menounos(fantastic 4)/ Amanda Righetti( The OC, North Shore)

Zeus- Robert Duvall/ Christopher Walken

Poseidon- Brian Cox(troy/zodiac)

Hades- Anthony Hopkins/Jack Nicholson

Aphrodite- Liv Tyler without a doubt even though her role will be small she is the goddess of beauty

Artemis- Marisa Tomei(anger management)/Natalie Portman ( V for Vendetta)

I don't know about the rest of the cast, but I always thought Michael Clarke Duncan would be a good Kratos. He's got the build and the voice. I heard somewhere that he lost a lot of weight. Don't know if it's true or not. If so, then it probably wouldn't work.

I think Gerard Butler should be Kratos. I thought that when I played the first game. As for everyone else, I'm not honestly sure yet.

I see Michael J White Playing Kratos.. if they use any other actor.. the movie is not going to be God of war in my eyes.. that all I got to say. :D

im not sure but i always thought id be a great kratos (hahahahahaha) no seriously though think about it we just need a big strong angry bald dude for kratos, he doesnt say that many lines so we dont need a top class actor. im thinking dominic purcell or Franky G myself but thats just me

Kane would be a good fit as far as looks go. He probably can't act very well, though. Vin Diesel sounds like the best fit for Kratos IMO.

Peter Jackson would be the best director for the job as far as I'm concerned, although I admit I haven't given it much thought. Liv Tyler sounds like a good fit for Athena. Maybe Willem Defoe for Ares. I don't know, it would take a long time to find the perfect actor/actress for each character.

kratos has o be an unknown actor,, its the only way no big name actor would stoop to play a role they look at it like a step down

I don't know why everyone just assumes whoever plays Kratos has to be big and bald and not be able to act.

How boring would that be? Two hours of a Stone Cold Steve Austin clone running around the desert hitting CGI monsters?

I want to see someone who's not necessarily massive...but who can get pretty ripped. Watch Brad Pitt in TROY...speaking as a straight man I will say right now that that was the most perfect male form I've ever seen. Every muscle defined without looking grotesque...like a bodybuilder.

I would love to see someone like Gerard Butler in this role...someone who looks like a warrior but also can act. My dream pick would be a ripped up Oded Fehr (from the Mummy movies). He looks Mediterranean, has a build that can probably accomodate a lot of muscle and has the menacing look you want in a God of Warfare.

Yeah, someone actually said, "I want someone who doesn't know how to act." I agree, the guy needs to be able to act some....which is why I think Vin Diesel is still a great man for the role. He's shown some good acting chops in the past, but can also play the tough guy role. His character in Pitch Blakc reminds me a lot of Kratos. A warrior-type who is evil....but still helps out man-kind in ways.

Diesel hasn't had the best of luck with roles lately and has taken a 'step back' to resume his role in Fast & Furious. And after Babylon A.D. he could be looking for another role like that to redeem himself. If God of War did well and he was the lead, would also help him get more money for his Chronicles movies he still wants to make.

May not be looked at as perfect but here goes.

Kratos - Dominic Purcell or Amaury Nolasco

Ares - Ray Winstone

Athena - Jessica Beals or Angelina Jolie (I know some dislike her skill but the way her structure looks in GoW3, she kinda looks like her if she wasn't all clear and glass like)

Aphrodite - Liv Tyler

Artemis - Marisa Tomei

Can't think of the other Gods just yet. I'll get back when I think of good choices, but what does everyone think of mine so far? Be honest.

My first choice is Djimon Hounsou,

My second would be Gerard Butler or Dominic Purcell.

The rock & Vin Diesel could work too.

I started out saying no black actors for Kratos but then I started watching Criminal Minds and Shemar Moore could pull the part off. They could easily lighten him up with makeup for the flashbacks. He's already not that dark.
