Hit Home.

Just saw this film. Too painful to discuss. A similar problem with academics happened to me. For anyone who might doubt that something like this could happen -- think again. No, I didn't kill anyone. However, the hatred and distrust don't go away. I would certainly never deal with any student the way my major professor did in my case. Particularly galling was that years later his colleagues told me he often said I was the smartest student he ever had.

I'm sorry. Yes, I'm sure this happens a lot. One reason I love nursing is because it's one of the few subjects you can teach at college level without needing a doctorate and all of the crap that goes with it.

I suppose he was jealous of you?

Yes, for me too. All academia is like this, not just the sciences. I was in the humanities, and originally intended to get a Ph.D, but I was so disgusted and disillusioned by what I saw I left it. I never regretted my decision. As far as they're concerned, truth is IRRELEVANT. Their careers and personal prestige are all that matters. Truth has no place in anything. This movie nailed it, right on the head. I was surprised to see it exposed so accurately; I didn't know that people outside of the insular little world of academia knew about this phenomenon well enough to dramatize it.
