Not bad BUT

1) it has never been pronounced that the movie is actually telling a true story

2) in real life he never was a "pussy" but started training at the age of 5 and earned master degress in several fighting disciplines - so from childhood on he always was one of the best

3) the movie did not tell anything about his being famous around the world. In the movie it seems like he was someone known to the local Japanese press only. In fact he did a tour around the world challenging the best fighters of the time including american wrestlers etc. --> he won them all. Most fights within seconds!

4) I guess this guy was the best fighter the world has ever seen - Bruce Lee and the likes are nothing more than schoolboys compared to this one. Unfortuantely the movie did not help clearing this up - so his story will rest in some drawers of his karate schools.

nah anyone whos someone that knows martial arts will know what this guy was.

also i think they added all that stuff just to make it more dramatic. sure they made him look bad in some scenes in an over-the-top way, like him soaking his pants. but they also made him look over-the-top good with some of the flashy maneuvers. its to calibrate and cater to making it a movie. hopefully the audience will know that

he was a legend and its a shame people dont know more about him. he's right up there with musashi

The DVD version I rented had a short text before the film started, explaining that the movie is inspired by Mas Oyama's life, but that all events in the film are fictional, so I was warned not to take everything literally!
It would have been nice to see a more authentic film though.

What I find annoying in general whenever I see movies is bad, cheesy acting!
And this movie had one of the worst, corniest actress in this girl who played his girlfriend geisha Yoko. When she and her female friend were talking in the riksha pulled by Bae-dal, I thought they were doing a slapstick comedy dialogue or something. Plus, she looked so plastic-surgery-fake.

There's no point in complaining about a film based on a man who lived a (relatively) long time ago as it's never going to be truly accurate. I believe it's far better to sacrifice realism in favour of an entertaining film that to strive to make an inevitably inaccurate lesser film just for the sake of realism.
