Salma Hayek vs. Penelope Cruz

These are both beautiful and talented actresses. But in my opinion, Salma is the better of the two. She, in my opinion, is much more beautiful and talented. Salma has gotten a lot better with her English, and it is clear if you watch her latest movies compared to her earlier movies. Penelope Cruz still has a little bit of trouble with her English, I think that if she worked as hard as Salma to better her English, she would be in the same league as Hayek. However, beauty-wise, I think Salma is just a little bit more sexier and has a better body. Penelope Cruz is still very attractive though. What do you guys think is better and why?

My favorite is definitely Salma Hayek. She's got a strong character and an amazing screen presence. I think Penelope Cruz is OK, I liked her in "Abre Los Ojos", but she lacks presence, and I don't find her intriguing at all. But that's just me. Also, Salma is prettier IMO, but Penelope also looks great. I think it'll be cool to see both of them in the same movie.

Salma rules!!!!! I have NO idea why anyone would give Cruz the time of day, I have tried to watch her in films but her bug eyes, beak nose and big forehead with those ears.......need I say more? Her voice is very annoying as well. Much better actress is Salma Hayek, Cruz has no screen presence at all. The difference in talent is going to be painfully obvious - they should have gotten a better actress for Hayek to star with.

You couldn't go wrong with either but I'd have to go with Salma too. That certainly in no way diminishes Penelope b/c she is so gorgeous too. A man has to choose one so I'd take Salma. Just remembering that dance she did in "From Dusk Till Dawn" makes the choice easy...

I like them both a lot, and at first I would be in agreement with you about Salma. I thought she was prettier and the better actress. But then I saw Penelope in "Don't Tempt Me" and that changed EVERYTHING! I think Penelope has a more natural beauty to her, and I honestly like her better without all that glam makeup. As far as Penelope having trouble with her English, that might be because she still makes Spanish movies in her Native country, whereas Salma has gone completely Hollywood.
And, not that you can judge by a few talk show interviews, but I think Penelope is probably the more down to earth of the two. Just my two cents as a fan of both ladies.

Penélope is better actrees than Salma,she has been nominated in 2 times for best european actrees,she won 1 goya and has been nominated in 3 times,she won the David de donatello.....etc....See Non ti muovere or the girl of your dreams(la niñe de tus ojos).

I have seen her in some interviews lately, as well as in "Dont Move" and she completely blew me away. Shes such a beautiful woman, and so down to earth and real. Its no wonder all the men get totally smitten after working with her. Shes a real gem, completely deep and stunning as well.

And she also speaks 4 languages, and just began to learn English and 15...

Penelope. Both women are beautiful but to me Cruz looks real and more kind hearted. Have seen her recent interviews and I recall what Cruise said before "she's beautiful at the same time real". I also know that she's a good person, better than what other people picture her to be. Matthew M also mentioned what a tremendous respect she has for herself and in so doing has great respect for her lineage, family, her past and her present.

IN the future I know a good project will come her way.

Definitely Selma. I first remember seeing her in Kevin Smith's "Dogma", in which she wears spectacles. "Guys like sex with girls in specs". In "Jay and Silent Bob", it's Shannon Elizabeth who wears the spectacles. Kevin must have a fetish similar to mine.

Personally, I like Penelope a lot more than Salma.
Salma's okay, but Penelope is just gorgeous. She's tall, thin, and beautiful. And I just don't find short and stumpy women like Salma very attractive.

She looks like the typical Mexican woman. Or man for that matter.

I love both Salma and Penélope, so no arguing there, but one thing that should be clear is this: Penélope is tiny, very small, about one inch taller than Salma but that's it. And I've seen them both. They just have different types of bodies. ;)

She is 5'5. That's not tall.

They're both beautiful, talented, classy ladies. I love them both :) I think Penelope has the most beautiful voice and accent...She is so cute in Woman On Top. They're good people, and I admire them so much.

I've seen Vanilla Sky quite a few times and Penelope is cute in it, just like in all her movies. She is a petite, cute, latina. Salma on the other hand is absolutely gorgeous. She is very sexy and captivates you with every scene.

Salma Hayek is by far the better of the two. However, i havent seen volver, so maybe cruz is good. But two films make it for me for salma: Firstly, Frida and secondly Wild Wild West(joke).

& people who like more curvier & more "endowed" ;) women will go for Salma

Body- Penelope (i go for the smaller ones)
Looks- Tie (i'll take them both :) )

Penelope Cruz is my personal idol! I like her because she is still a little under the radar. She definately picks roles not for the glamour or the attention of Hollywood, but ones that are less glamorous and a bit grittier. Salam is totally Hollywood-ized. She uses her sexuality just like every other 2-bit actress, but Penelope has charm and grace which cannot be matched. Penelope's personal sense of style is also very appealing. While some may find her gawky looking with her big eyes and lean frame, I think she is very uinque looking and looks amazing even in her ugliest roles (i.e. Gothika) I agree with someone who wrote in this thread earlier that if you don't like Penelope now watch "Vanilla Sky" and you will absolutely fall in love with her. That's the first I ever saw of her and now I can't stop admiring her grace, beauty and charm. I think she is a great rolemodel for young girls like myself. I truly think her role in Vanilla Sky was the closest charcater she's every played to her true personality. ¡Ella es magnífica!

Im sorry but i have to disagree with this comment, most of salmas movies have
been independent movies that show alot of her talent. she makes a big
hollywood every other time but i think thats just so that she can stay
aflot and i personaly think thats a very smart move on her part. I honestly
think salma is in this business because of the art and love of making movies, not
only that but alot of her movies are movies that show something possitive.
For example "in the time of the butterflies" "time code" "FRIDA" for which
she was nominated for an oscar and theres more i just cant think of them
right now.
