The ending

I really didn't understand the point of the mini mart shooting at the end. Why include that in the story? It just seemed a little sensational and unlikely. It was nice that the cop got to redeem himself, maybe that was why.

The point of Tally's murder was that violence was still wrecking the Huttenson family. OK, so Frank got to catch the bad guy. Don't really care about that so much. What really hurt and left me shattered at the end of the movie is that after everything David went through, and how hard he was trying to carry on, his world is destroyed by violence again. Can you imagine? The only thing that made it bearable for him to go to the school where his brother killed a bunch of kids was this sweet girl he meets and begins falling for. And she's killed in cold blood. I ached for that poor boy.

And if you think senseless killings are unlikely, you must live in a very sheltered world.

reply

what I meant that its extremely unlikely that a teenager would have his brother killed in a violent death AND his "girlfriend" killed in a violent death all within 2-3 years. You gotta admit, thats pretty unlikely, especially in the suburbs.

reply

Not hardly, ^btibbens^. I went to Columbine High School (by some grace of God I was not at school that day) and knew many of the kids who were hurt or killed, including my boyfriend. 1 1/2 years later my father and brother were killed by a bank robber up the street from my house. I definatly lived in the suburbs.

Thank you for telling ^btibbens^ that sometimes events that happen in movies do happen to people in real life. I guess if it doesnt happen to ^btibbens^ it doesnt happen to anyone.

I agree Deb. That part was really dramatic. I loved Nikki Reed's characters chemistry between Chris's character David. I feel soo bad for him in the end when he cries because he thinks she stood him up. Then I think well he's only going to cry more when he goes to school the next day and finds out what happens. Poor David. :'(

RIP River Phoenix.
I <3 Chris Marquette & the shows Joan Of Arcadia & Freaks And Geeks!

He's not crying because he thinks she stood him up. He knows by then, they just don't waste time showing it.

I got the movie for X-mas and really enjoyed it. great cast. the storylines kept it interesting.

I was shocked when Nikki Reed's character got shot. the faraway shot of her being snuffed out made it more realistic and well... shocking to me! lol. then if it had been done all closeup like. it kinda reminded me of a scene from "Last house on the left" or "Wolf Creek".

Her facial expressions and the way she slowly turns around all scared was really sad to me. :-( and her little snippet of dialogue before she dies is so... ordinary right before tragedy strikes. "Do you have any Strawberry Soda? ... nevermind I see it."

Overall I liked her character. because she was being nice to David. and was trying to help him move on. and then BAM! she's gone. :-(

"Why don't they understand we're all the same?"

The ending was pretty dramatic...First time I saw the ending I was stunned about the shooting of the clerk and the girl.

reply

Me too. I was devastated the first time around. I really connected with the characters in that storyline. Broke my heart.

Why? Because liquor store robbers always shoot and kill the store clerk and customers for no reason, then run away from someone who walks in on the robbery instead of shooting them as well, just like drunk people shoot up gas stations because the high cost of booze, just like the rest of how unbelievable this movie is.

What utter garbage.

reply

I don't think a Rams fan has any room to be calling anything garbage.
