So many question....

Isn't the man-eater supposed to be Zadoba's ally? So why his sons help Volkodav to fight Zadoba in the end?

And why Zadoba want to kill Helen so badly? And wth is that Marlona?

And Volkodav's father is actually the smith who help forged Zadoba's sword? Then why did they kill him?

reply

I'm not quite clear on what was up with Maneater's son, but we can probably chalk it up to him not being nearly the piece of work that his father was.

Zadoba didn't want to kill the princess, specifically: he wanted to capture her and use her blood and the "key" to release Morranna. There was a fair amount of exposition about Morranna, who was a goddess of evil imprisoned in the celestial gates by the god of thunder. Zadoba was one of the druids associated with Morranna, thus the whole plot.

Also covered in dialogue is that Volkodav's father forged a sword that could kill Zadoba. Zadoba just stole it.

Yeah, right after he kills the smith he says. This sword is much better than mine.

I thought the beginning was very Conan the Barbarian but stuck it out and was rewarded with very good movie experience. The production values were excellent only the rather poor subtitles affected my enjoyment but not that much.

The russians make some really innovative fantasy movies but they like their bridge battlescenes a little too much!
