It gets done in Russia jokes end here

I bought this DVD not knowing anything bout it. It came very cheap and all i saw on the case was a dude with a sword and on theback, swords and sorcery and that was enough for me.
I am a huge fan of fantasy, games, movies, literature, you name it. I didnt expect much as i know howmodern fantasy goes, seen all those movies, and the ones i havent i will for sure at some point.
With opening credits i was like huh its Russian. I dont speak a sinlge syllable russian so adepting to the language was a bit tuff at first but watching further it made the movie even better. In english it wouldnt have made sense, just like it doesnt make sense when you watch a movie about the roman empire and they all go speaking english ... but of course thats how we all are used to it. Watching this in a, for me, exotic language, only made it feel even more realistic.
It is custom for fantasy to have lots of exotic names, places, people, gods etc, yet the language is always english. So on that part it scores already very high.
Now for the story, its cliche, its a Perseus saves Andromeda and kills Medusa all over again. Who cares, what story hasnt been told already.
The acting was pretty solid, the fights where a bit less believable. Blood splattering miles away from the victims etc but I can live with that too.
This movie is a Fantasy, yes with capital F. Everyone might laugh with how things get done in Russia, but after seeing this, if its one thing they know, it is making a good fantasy movie. Hollywood can learn a few lessons about this one as there is no modern fantasy movie i know comming from them that can tip this.
What lotr? Dont make me laugh, once you have seen that one a few times you start to see past the CGI and see how hollow it is. Unlike Wolfhound, wich actually has a story to tell. And makes an effort in telling the story without the need to wrap it up in the latest CGI tricks to hide the fact how badly written it actually is, it doesnt need it, and that for me is good cinema. I take a crappy drawn monster with a solid story over eyecandy and no story.
