Was anyone disturbed?

Just watched it for the first time and I thought it was too much that a kid stabs his dad in the gut with a knife. Yeah, yeah, I know it was the ogre, but think about how damaging it is to a kid watching the film, thinking it's okay to stab your father in the gut if you suspect he's an "ogre".

I was like, "Bad director, bad!" They should've found a different way of getting the message across.
Other than that, I thought it was an interesting movie.

I just laugh thinking about how many kids wanted to stab their dad when he said "I love you" after watching this movie. Sick, I know, but kids are impressionable...

Come back here and take what's coming to you! ILL BITE YER LEGS OFF!

if some kid goes and stabs his dad after seeing this movie then it's the kid who has the problem, not the movie

I'm gonna die of long hair!

It's the same crap people pulled with groups like Iron Maiden, Slayer and Ozzy Osbourne.

My parents never told me not to listen to certain Heavy Metal bands because they were afraid that it would affect me instead they knew that if I would end up being a psycho that I would have been a psycho without the music..it's just music and here it's just a movie..no it's not disturbing..if you let your kid watch this and he's disturbed then perhaps the kid wasn't old enough to realize that this is fantasy and not real. Be a smart parent and figure out what is a good age to let your kid watch this movie.. if a hammer falls on your foot you don't blame the hammer..same here..movies don't influence people..people influence people.

One of the first things anyone should teach their kids is that films are not suggesting normatives (that is, not saying, "It's okay to do this", or "You should do this") by merely showing a character doing something. Parents should teach kids that when a film shows a character doing something it's just what that fictional character did in that situation. They should teach kids that films are fictions, and not meant as claims about the real world.

Maybe if that happened more often we wouldn't have adults that say such stupid things about films (and that's not a knock against you, but just a very general comment about some of the things we read here on the message boards of IMDb).

I think the movie is a nice throwback to 80's fantasy movies where you actually got scared watching them, like THE GATE.
I don't mean to impose, but I am the Ocean.

i think the ogre should've revealed himself sooner, like the crazy eyes of the bird for example, the dad could've had crazy eyes- when the kid stabs him, the viewer isn't 100% sure it's not the *real* dad (especially since it was the first time the dad got any screen-time)
