How could it be a dream (Spoilers) ?

The scene near the end, where Benedicte/Alice gives Alain the key to Pollocks house, could not have, logically anyway, been a dream. How can someone give you something in a dream, that you subsequently use for real? If he was only dreaming he got the key,he was only dreaming he killed Pollock. It was either all real,or all a dream.

That scene is not a dream. As I understood it, everything in the movie actually happens except the scene when Alain comes home to find Benedicte unresponsive and the kitchen full of lemmings. That really was a dream or a concussion-induced hallucination.

The rest of the movie is basically a ghost story. Dead Alice's spirit possesses Benedicte and induces her odd behavior. Her motive is to provoke Alain into killing Pollock, and she succeeds.
