Well, I enjoyed the movie, although it's not one of the best Johnnie To, IMHO.
But I don't get the ending too well!

I guess it's Andy Lau who is burried at the end, but what about his ex-wife, driving and seeming quite happy on the last images ? Where is she going and why is she so happy ?

According to my mom, Andy is buried at the end. His ex-wife(Sammi) is driving happy because she still thinks he is alive. Stealing was like a game to them. Within the two years, Andy kept interfering in Sammi's business. Even after giving her his wealth, she can't help but think he will be back to play some more. Sad to say he dies and is buried in a remote location from which she probably will never discover.

I just finished watching the movie (I loved it btw, althought I find it a bit sad that he ended up dead) and I was under the impression that it were two boats, the one they started with had a more yacht look and the one they ended up with was more like a speed boat. It was also clear to see that the first boat was out of reach at one point and then another boat came into the picture.
Presumably they just swapped those two boats, the second boat was probably launched by someone who helped them stealing those diamonds.
I pretty much figured that it was Mr. Thief in the casket as well. I'm uncertain where in the film's storyline that he died, though. He is alive when they go to the overlook park, but seems to be dead by the time she's gotten in her car after getting the fake necklace out of the bowling alley locker.
I guess you're not supposed to think about it. I thought it would have been better if he'd died at the Spanish retreat and the conversation with Steve's mom had taken place before he'd left.
nonono... it wasn't him at the overlook park, it was a double. you know the part where Ms allen is looking for people who looked like him? it was to trick sammi to thinking he is still alive and it was to make us wonder until the end with teh conversation with Steve's mom.
shareHe died after taking his walk at his "home" by the mountain. If you look closely the person who has the Necklace at the end, that Sammi follows to the peak where the first necklace was placed, is wearing a mask that looks like Andy's face. As Steve's mom said the whole thing was to give his wife hope, and give her one last game to follow, I mean now she will always wonder if he is really dead or alive expecting him to come out and suprise her at anytime.

I agree, it's a bittersweet ending, but nonetheless, I think think the main theme is there chemistry and love together. I'm a huge fan of Andy Lau and even more so now...sweet story.

shareI really admired Andy Leu from this movie. He can play and act by using his eye soooo well from the storyline. and I always love Sammi, she's great as well.
I don't like sad ending but happy ending. This story should be 'When a man love a women' in HK
I have to thanks for the topic and everybody to answer and give me the clue what's this guy has been done for all the movie. Remind me the way Sammi said 'why don't you let me win sometimes' actually she's already won...
