I was just about to ask the same question. What's this movie about? Todd Field is producing so I'm curious.

At least now that I'm in my 30's, I can hold my drink.

This movie has begun to generate quite a bit of buzz and heat. It's definitely becoming a talked-about and anticipated independent film. It's the brainchild of Craig Sheffer, the writer/director making his debut in the director's chair, and producers Bradley Kramer and Todd Fields, of In the Bedroom fame. It's a dark comedy in the vain of Pulp Fiction with a very witty and original script, an outstanding cast and, word has it, some exceptional performances. Clearly, based on the budget of the film and the level of talent involved, the actors had to be very interested in and impressed by the script to sign up. It's in post-production at the present moment and should move into the early stages of the distribution process by early September... Look for it by next year, from what I hear...

well thanks for the info. I'm pretty interested in seeing it based on your description.

How do you know that "it fails miserabley?" IT HASN'T BEEN CUT YET! Why don't you wait until the movie has been cut? (Nobody knows if it will be good or not!) Then you can make you comments and try to make yourself feel smart!
It's not over till that chubby women finales, budddy!

Why do you sound like a studio publicist?

reply

Based on Sheffer's history, this movie does not look promising. Good for him that he's directing, but c'mon... there hasn't been any buzz for this movie. It is strange that two highly experienced B listers are in the movie, but I'd take a more cautious approach.

Um... yeah. I obviously have no idea what truly happens in the film-making world, regardless of the fact that I've been in it for 11 years- you wouldn't know that though; you're too busy making baseless assumptions. Anyway, it's been months since I've looked at this thread, and even more months since there's be hardly any buzz about the movie. I'm guessing you're someone on the production team? If you are, doesn't it bite to be part of a movie the rest of the world doesn't care about? If you're not, you're lucky.

*edit*

Well, now I see why you were so vehemently, if not childishly defending your movie; you ARE on the production team- if you're not lying. You need to work on your professional polish; insulting people that disagree about your movie's prospects does not bode well for you or your movie.

It's most definitely NOT the brainchild of Craig Sheffer. It's the brainchild of Michael DiIorio, whom I know on a personal basis.

This thread, barely short of flaming, is getting quite interesting.

As far as little me is concerned, I'll see it for Scott MacDonald if he's in it, for only his acting, not an interest in the movie.

Wouldn't it be nice if the world was that simple?

Smile!

They said the same thing about Last Action Hero and Get Shorty 2.

Jarhead didn't start ramping up hype till what? A month or so before it was released?

AC isn't out until Spring 2006. I'll want to read reviews and synop. before I make any sort of judgement... well, actually, I'll see it first. Scott MacDonald's discription of his character makes it worth while...

"...Mr. Snow, the shot gun toting country bumpkin Pa with a promiscuous (and hot) daughter..."

Don't know all that it's about- But Scott MacDonald is in it, so no matter what- you're garenteeed to get a good performance out of him!!

reply

Umm, I don't think there's anyone named Scott MacDonald acting in this movie. You may want to check your sources...

i posted a review of the script for those of you who are interested.

I read that the story for American Crude was based largely in part on the screenplay "Midnight Special", the script is posted here: http://www.geocities.com/ouiwrite/Midnite_Special_Script.html
I haven't read American Crude, but if anyone knows of a copy online could you please send me the url, I would be interested to see the similarities if any.
