i salute the real soldiers!!!

i just wanted to say that i have total admiration for the real soldiers who were imprisoned in coldiz. there are no words to decribe how clever and brave they really are. they planned some of the most amazing escapes, and i totally admire them. risking their lives just to get home.
the drama was amazing and totally real of how far they would go.
never knowing what would happen to them if caught.
i get annoyed that how anybody in entertainment, sport etc are given knighthoods. those men in coldiz should be given knighthoods, they re the heros. for god sake they saved us. soldiers like jack, willis etc, all capured so this world wasnt run by the nazis. the price they paid for us, and i dont think there is half as much gratitude given back.
after watching coldiz last night i feel even more gratitude towards them.
thank you sirs!!!

Is your opinion based on what you saw in the miniseries or previous reading about the actual Colditz castle? I don't want to seem offensive, but I've heard that the miniseries' account of what went on differs significantly to what actually did happen (Do keep in mind I won't be able to see it till late this year, probably). Besides, it's more of a piece of entertainment than a retelling of history.

But yeah, definitely, soldiers such as the guys in Colditz deserve a lot of recognition.

Anybody who is brave enough to go to war deserves recognition. In particular, the youngest ones, like WW1, the youngest was like 14, that is just brave. But i think they all deserve recognition. It's always sad thinking about all the people that died being brave.

Was Colditz, the TV program just based on Colditz but not entire fact or was it based on some mens' stories of Colditz while they were there in real life?

From what I've read about the miniseries, it's inspired by what happened at Colditz rather than based on the book "Colditz: The Definitive History" by Henry Chancellor. Obviously, the book is based on interviews given by the Colditz guys, and other research. By the way, is the book mentioned in the credits at all?

hi,
i saw a documentry on ITV not so long back, where the real soldiers of coldiz went back to coldiz to meet up and talk about there time there. my father is a keen coldiz historian, and probabaly knows everything there is to know. although the mini series was good, and did use some of the real escapes, such as the dutch soldier taking jack and willis out in army uniforms cos he knew the german lingo. that was true.
but i agree with you that it was'nt as acurate as it should of been. some bits i found a little silly, and totally not right. no i dont believe it was dealt with the care a historic moment in time should of been dealt with.

It's a story set in Colditz. It's not accurate. It's not meant to be. It's entirely fiction. If you watch it with that attitude then you'll enjoy it.

I think the problem is that the TRUE story of Colditz is so interesting, people get offended when its mucked about with and dramatised.

Yes, but the point is that it's NOT the story of Colditz, nor is it meant to be. It's a story partly set in Colditz, nothing more, just like a story that happens to be set in Sing Sing Prison is not the story of Sing Sing Prison but just uses it as a backdrop. It is not intended to be the Colditz Story.
