A Confederacy of Dunces RIPOFF

If you take a moment to dissect this movie, you'll quickly realize that it's a Confederacy of Dunces ripoff. Even the things that the Heder character says are completely like Ignatius's lines. And the girlfriend who is the folk singer! Then there is the boyfriend angle. The only thing missing is Patrolman Mancuso...

RIPOFF!

Genius.

Agreed.

Blatant ripoff!

Just proves what amazing source material the novel is! When are they going to make that into a movie, that hopefully they won't botch?

reply

Amazing. You guys are defending that above average novel with this film which is soulless to say the least? Confederacy of Dunces is the most overrated, bloated book due to the author's suicide.

reply

I totally agree with that call. Bored me to tears

Great novel and I don't think anybody is defending this film by saying it ripped off the book, are they? I personally do not read books while at the same time thinking, 'This writer is dead/killed himself/dresses up as a nun on Sunday afternoons.' I just read it and enjoy it or do not.

Too bad such a good cast had to be wasted on a bad movie that doesn't even acknowledge it lifts ideas from a great novel. Although I'm kinda grateful there's been no actual "Confederacy" movie yet--some of the filmmakers attached to that in the past would have been wrong, and it would require an ability to play extreme caricatures in a deadpan rather than shrilly cartoonish fashion that would be difficult, to say the least.
