the writer watched Wong kar wai's "as tears go by" and said i can do better?

the two main characters, the plot of ATGB minus the love story with maggie cheung and the story of the younger pair in this one, the to main actors, them both dieing as brothers being considered th most important thing in the world. the over the top bad treatment jacky cheung gets, ect. are rather similar.

Personally I'm not a big Wong kar wai fan and i liked this one better.
