many questions... (and spoilers)

1) i read somewhere that the scene with the dog was cut..
it's not on my dvd, so I wonder what happened?

2) also... I thought the "love" story between yik and yoyo was pretty boring.. is she supposed to be Hung wife afterall?

3) what happened to the eye-patch guy? I thought he would be somehow relevant to the plot? I read somewhere that it is revealed in a deleted scene that he is in fact a cop?? all those editing (censorship?) in HK movies that i saw recently are getting pretty annoying! those deleted scenes are often importants and they are never translated!

4) in the end, lefty said on the phone "bring me the punk"... i'm not sure, but is this meaning that HE sent a punk to kill his boss?

5) why is there so many assasins in the end? and why none of them has a gun? and by the way, Hung doesn't have any armed bodyguard? How hard is it to get a gun in HK? I thought a big boss would have bodyguards with guns..?

6) finally, when turbo leaves the restaurant pretending to be out of cigarettes.. is he doing it on purpose to save yik? i don't really get it... he sees a few guys outside acting stupid and he goes running in front of them? if he stayed calm in the restaurant, i guess the guys would have just passed by..?

overall, i give it 7/10. not as good as IA of course, but better than election..

1) i read that too. is on your dvd anny deleted scenes? that one should be there too. no idea how really that dog *beep* looked.

2) i suppose so too. yik's personality was kind strong, so probably he keeped the promise and came back to yoyo

3) no idea. he just looked like a loyal servant or mr. hung to me.

4) i have same questions about that

5) maybe its something about honour. well when i watched the movie i was thinking, what it would take to get me agun. i believe its not really that easy. as for bodyguards, he and lefty wanted to talk alone. i guess thats there was only one unarmed bodyguard.

6) completely lost about this one too

sorry,i am not much of a help clearing the plot..
i gave it 6/10. very average, for my taste. 6 only because it left me thinking about what really happend there:)

reply

well thanks anyway..

1) sorry but the beeped part doesn't help me understanding the scene.. there are no deleted scenes at all on my dvd.

5) well i guess it makes sense.. and if they are alone and the killers can find them, maybe it means for #4 that lefty did have something to do with the killers..

1) I don't find it on my DVD either. But honestly, I really wouldn't want to have to watch a scene involving Edison "beep"ing a dog. As long as it's implied. The point of the entire scene was to transform Turbo into Lefty, to explain why he became such a cruel triad boss (killing eitire families, including children)

2) I don't think there was any hint that YoYo was in fact Emily (Hung's wife) but like the other guy said Yik/Hung was an honourable man, so it's totally possible.

3) Apparently this scene is in the DVD, but for some reason I cant find any of these deleted scenes. But I guess that idea that he was actually a cop seemed stupid and cliche and like 500 other HK movies out there.

4) He did in fact hire the punk, but only to threaten Hung to get out of Hong Kong (New Zealand or something if I recall) and give Lefty the empire. He had to call off the hit when he found out Hung made a fool out of him the whole time (by kidnapping his mother, thereby actually saving her... Watch the last restaurant scene)

5) This one confused me as well. My prediction was the fact that they were hired to kill Lefty by the three lieutenants eariler that night. Since Lefty already called off the hit, they weren't really after Hung, but he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Stupid restaurant. Also in response to your gun question, Hong Kong actually has pretty strict gun laws. I'm pretty sure you cannot buy a gun at a local cornerstore like in some other countries.

6) This is one of my favourite parts, because it's the turning point of Turbo's life. Yes, he did all that to save Yik's ass from those few other punks (although I have to wonder as well "what if he stayed calm at the restaurant?" Again, stupid restaurant). Turbo had been a useless, cowardly, low-level punk pretty much all his life, but by making his first heroic act for his friend to succeed, showing signs of honour or "yee hay" he became Lefty, a powerful man greatly feared in the underworld.

2. While there is no real evidence, as to whether Emily and Yoyo are one and the same. Emily has a bowl of apples in her hospital room, while Yoyo was the "girl with the apple".

4. I actually think the three lackeys ordered the hit. And tried to call it off after finding out that Hung had spared them. But when questioned by Teak as to why they needed to use his phone they played it off and weren't able to call off the hit in time.

5. I believe guns can be very hard to obtain in certain parts of Asia. Like in Japan pretty much the only people allowed to carry guns are the Police. Guns usually can only be obtained through black market dealers e.g. Old Demon.

6. I believe the thugs outside the restaurant were henchmen of the boss that Yik was supposed to assasinate. Out on a mission to sniff out the hitman, Turbo recognized them (having served under the leader I think...) and I guess tried to throw them off their trail or at least draw them away from Yik.

china has 1 gun law no guns allowed except police and military, same with korea, you can get shotguns and rifles in japan with an expensive licence, tailand you can get almost anything you can in the US. black market is the only source of guns in china

5) Yeah I agree. Those assassins were all sent by the three lieutenants. Andy and Jacky had 2 bodyguards too, but I guess they went down early.

6) Edison probably didn't want to risk involving Shawn. Thought he could sneak away.

The knife-wielding gangsters at the end are sent by the 3 underlings (1 got killed earlier). They wanted to call off the hit in the car, because if they didn't, they would die too.

So instead, everybody dies.

The two main bosses die. Then possibly the eye-patch guy will kill the 2 underlings left and their entire families (mentioned in the car they were also kidnapped).

This is also the reason why lefty wants the 3 underlings dead, because they want to become the main bosses.
