'Jiang Hu 2' Finally Announced!
Jiang Hu 2 is finally here….. There has been talks about a second film ever since the release of “Jiang Hu”, I heard that the producers have had a difficult time finding a story and a director to make a sequel but it’s finally here…
I read in a recent press release here in Hong Kong that the follow up to "Jiang Hu" will be called "Jiang Hu-Yi". The plot will be completely new, along with a new cast also, so it will be a second installment, rather than a sequel. The film is set for release in 2007.
The Chinese word “Yi” means Honor and Respect, and YES… that’s the word that Quentin Tarantino keeps trying to explain when he talks about John Woo films on his DVD commentaries...
The producer of the film Eric Tsang, who played “Sam” in the Infernal Affairs Trilogy and also played “Tall Man” in the first film claims that “Jiang Hu Yi” will be bigger and better than the first, while the first film took place during one night, Jiang Hu Yi’s story takes place over several years, focusing on the "brotherhood" of the Hong Kong Triads. The film is written and will also be directed by a 24 year-old director named Daniel Chan Yee-Heng.
Personally, I am really looking forward to this new film, I was a fan of the first “Jiang Hu” and can’t wait to see how this new one will try to surpass the old one. Eric Tsang has always had a great eye for new talent, in the past, he had discovered Peter Chan, director of “Perhaps Love” and Tsang also produced the Pang Brothers’ breakout movie “The Eye”.
I am also interested in seeing how this film will rate against Johnnie To’s “Election” Series... Which I feel did not have enough realism, it feels very “staged”...
If anyone has more news about the making of “Jiang Hu-Yi”... Please keep this topic alive!
Peace
