bunch of bulsh*t represented as art

the director bulsh*tted the whole movie from his ass and people pretend to love it, because they think that if they can't understand a film, it means it contains very deep messages and it is a great art film.
this movie was terrible 1/10

I'm not surprised people like you said awful things about this film. This was a movie that needed to be made, it didn't follow conventional storytelling techniques, it didn't hold your hand, and it was heavy with symbolism. It made sense why people didn't like it, but it needed to be made, it was a movie that only cared about what it stood for, not about what people thought about it.

It's definitely not a movie for narrow minded/weak minded people.. As condescending as that sounds, it's true.

reply

yeah, when I started this thread I absolutely knew someone would reply it with something like you wrote, "it has deep meanings, one must be above all to understand it, it's weaved with mystical totems and it reflects the core of the sourful souls, bla bla bla"

reply

This is what happen when you make a movie for the human spirit, soul, and for the the spirituals...some low life without soul or brain will come tell you it's a bad pretentious movie.

reply

see, that's what I'm talking about. you're still responding with that same bullsh*t

reply

Wholeheartedly agreed. This film is basically 94 minutes of Hollywood science, Hollywood history and New Age music videos. 1/10 is a bit harsh though. That would be Interstellar territory. At least this one doesn't take its pretentious self too seriously.

reply

The simple fact you gave it 1/10 shows you're not qualified to make any kind of analysis. Really, worst movie ever made? Worse than Veggietales movies and poorly made mean spirited crap like Dumb and Dumber Too? Really?

Yeah, that's excellent. We get that you don't like it, but giving it a 1 doesn't make you a critic, it makes you a 12 year old. "THIS DISPLEASED ME GREATLY!"

reply

I agree. Me and my brother walked out of this along with some other guy we didn't know.

Then stick to s h i t t y garbage like Transformers, Fast and Furious and Suicide Squad, you don't need to use your brain for those.

It is the true mark of a low intellect and an ignorant mind to label something you don't understand as 'terrible' and to dismiss it as 'crap'. Thanks for letting us all know what a moron you are.

Over the years, there have been many offered interpretations of the movie and its message. Over the years, one's appreciation has gained more and more substance. This is for those who wish to enrich their interpretation of the film.

I believe that people's reactions to movies like The Fountain depends a lot on how an individual evaluates movies. Do you analyze a film and appreciate the story, dialogue, and technical aspects, or do you react emotionally? I lean towards the second way, and I find The Fountain to be a beautiful love story, with excellent acting by both leads. However, I would think that those who tend to react intellectually could appreciate the film's acting, photography, and especially the amazing musical score, even if you find the story to be nonsensical. To each their own.

The problem with people like the OP is that they want to be spoonfed. They want simple linear storytelling. They want to be told what to think.

They hate having to think for themselves.

Usually because the (relatively simple) type of comprehension needed to appreciate and understand this film is far beyond their intellectual capabilities - despite being the type of comprehension needed to pass 8th grade.

They have no appreciation for complexity, for subtlety, for though-provoking non-linear storytelling.....

They probably are similarly confounded by films like The Lion King or Aladdin while claiming that Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is a masterpiece.

Show them The Godfather Part II and you'll have a bloody mess on the floor when their heads explode.
