Well that's that. I'll call it an interesting experience.
Very silly. Quite odd. Sort of fun.
Maybe I'll tune in again at some point, though as I mentioned earlier it seems like the kind of experience that would be more fun with a live chat and people to talk to.
It was one of the few "live" experiences us kids had back in the 70's and 80's. The host "watched" the movie with us and entertained us during commercial breaks and gave facts about it durinf the breaks. It was a dying genre.Though there are a few youtube channels trying to keep it alive along with Svengoolie. Some of the YouTube channels are pretty good. But it.only works if you know people are watching with you.
The problem is the movies they run never interest me at all. I like Svengoolie's approach of playing films that are actually good and that are from the Golden Age of movies.
Apparently there's a Svengoolie fan page that does a live chat. The problem there, for me, is that in the other half of the country Svengoolie airs an hour earlier and that's the time zone the chat is operating on.
Personally, I would like to see more hosted TV, even outside the horror/suspense genre. It seems the action genre in particular is ripe for this format but I could see it being used for any film, really. I don't mean the comedy, but more just a host to break in periodically and give you information on the film's production and cast and whatnot.
Yeah the creature features one I have seen. They have a few good films and in will say the production values if the show are right up there with Svengoolie. They even have guests. Marta Kristen from Lost in Space was a good one...
Frankly the production values of the in-studio segments might be higher. Svengoolie often feels like a show that got stuck in the 90s and never moved past that era (perhaps by design, as I'm sure many feel that's part of its charm). Creature Features feels like something produced today.
That one is discussed a little bit a few posts up.
I've seen it and like the hosted segments well enough but the movies are never something I'm interested in watching. I like that Svengoolie is always playing classic horror/suspense films from the Golden Age.
