Please keep in mind that it's the net effect of all of those points that makes her not worthy of being spammed so often on the various types of media.
However since you responded point by point, I'll counterstance so you understand where I was coming from. After a basic review...
I'm not bashing her as a person, as much as I am as a 'celebrity'. Before Jessica became famous, it's possible that Ashlee was a nice girl - however money and fame have clearly gone to her head... and not just a little bit either. She thinks she's 'hot *beep* when she's not.
The same exact media that is constantly pushing her on us also comes here to see what the fans and non-fans alike have to say. It's hardly fair to have the only comments on here to be made by either fans trying desperately to felch her, or by so called 'haters' who can easily toss names but who don't really post anything very substansitive. I just want the media folks who come in here to realize that most of us do not view her as a celebrity, and that this unnecessary attention on her is almost as bad as that lavished upon Paris Hilton. Luckily Ashlee is no where near as bad as Paris, however she's still not what she pretends to be - and that is annoying. She's not 'star worthy', nor is her sister - who is very attractive yet so utterly clueless that she cannot distinguish the difference between chicken and fish meat!!!
1. Having no talent isn't a bad thing, except when you act like you do. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses, as we are meant to... accentuating 'talents' you don't actually possess is fake and wrong.
Of course people with Down's Syndrome should not be mocked for making false claims like 'talent', however people such as Ashlee are not subject to that same prohibition... unless that is, you're claiming she is indeed mentally handicapped?
2. You claim that everybody 'has to start somewhere' with the general false assumption that she would have EVER had the chance to record an album if her sister's cleavage and pretty face hadn't allowed her rise to prominence. Fact is, she's riding her sister's coattails, and Jessica is overextended 'talent' as it is. Not everything in the world is 'buy one get one free' - however Joe Simpson wants both of his daughters to be rich and famous so he gets his VERY sizable cut.
It's about greed, not actual talent. Ashlee wouldn't have a chance without big sister and the 'twins' there - so why should she have a chance WITH them... I've seen much greater displays of talent in junior high school talent competitions; out of people who don't even begin to think they are 'star' caliber.
3. The way you spelled 'programmes' tells me that you speak some form of UK-inspired English. So you're from the UK, Canada, AU, NZ, etc... but not the US. Here in the US, she's spammed on us in all sorts of 'news' shows as well as the typical hollywood fluff shows. Ashlee doesn't belong on EITHER.
If 'Access Hollywood' or a typical US 'entertainment news' show wants to talk about Angelina and Brad's baby it is annoying enough, but when they waste time on Ashlee it's totally wrong.
When they even mention her name on more legitimate shows, it's way over the top. The unfortunate problem we have in the US is that we for the most part no longer have independent television networks, radio stations, magazines, newspapers, etc - they are all owned by one of only a few major syndicates. These syndicates of course want to push product and keep revenue flowing - so now unfortunately instead of actually providing legitimate 'news', many of these shows now only try to push 'new product' from their labels (and others with whom they have back scratching deals arranged).
The sad fallout effect of this is that people who NEVER would have even been allowed in the green room of shows like The Tonight Show, now are actually 'featured entertainers'. People like me dislike this sad transparent lust for money out of Hollywood/New York. Especially when their 'product' isn't even any good... if they're going to spam us with their 'new thing', they can at least waste some dollars to scout out 'new things' that are actually legitimately talented.
Why don't they take all of the time currently allocated to Ashlee and all of the other 'teenybopper musicians' and actually focus it on people like Jewel, Alicia Keys, Cheryl Crow or any number of other women who legitimately have huge talent? Simple... they don't push what's good - they're trying to maximize profits at the cost of everything else - even 'selling their souls' in the process. They know that Jewel and Alicia Keys' lyrics are far too complex for most of the younger teen females who buy this pre-packaged crap. Instead of doing a real talent search, it's easier (as in far LAZIER) to just hire somebody like Ashlee Simpson to record (they don't write it, they don't play instruments, and they can barely sing) whatever bad uninspired lyrics the hack who is their current chief lyricist put out for that year's allotment of teenybopper discs.
The music industry doesn't care which of their 'brand names' you buy, as long as you do indeed buy one of them - and unfortunately this has resulted in an overall deep descent in quality. The same basic theme has happened in 'big studio' film and network television as well, although the teenyboppers are much more blatant. If you buy her crap, you're one of the sheep.
4. No, singing hasn't changed - but like I mentioned above, who owns the right to things HAS. Since these acts like Ashlee Simpson really cannot focus on actual talent (since there's little if any), they are forced to try and divert your attention with elaborate stage shows and what have you. ANYTHING to get your attention off the fact that the 'singer's voice is cracking and terribly off key, and they they are quite clearly tone deaf.
It's really sad that these stage shows, which originally showcased inspired visions by truly talented performers like Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, The Who, etc. have been stolen by the teenybopper crowd. What's even sadder is that most kids these days don't seem to get that basic fact. Stage shows were meant to take you to another place, or to present you with imagery and metaphors about the music you were hearing - now it's an excuse to hire all sorts of relatively cheap dancers and basically anything to take your attention off how completely and unquestionably untalented the 'performer' is.
Unless they announce at the start of the show that they've got a cold or whatever, and really either need to lip sync or they'd have to cancel the show; anybody who lip syncs instead of actually singing before a live concert audience should be completely subject to the will of the mob.
Once again, these same 'brands' that arrange the 'talent' also arrange the tours and they don't care about actual artistic integrity - all they want is to produce a 'quality' (in their minds) show, so the little teenyboppers will come back. The problem is that the 'quality' of live music depends much more on it actually being LIVE MUSIC than the fact that the meat popsicle of the year is indeed standing on a stage in the same building as you are. The 'music company' accountants know just how bad this 'talent' is and so they in many cases won't allow them to sing live even if they want to - since for the most part the 'talent' couldn't do a good live show (with actual singing) if they tried.
The perfect exampls of this was Hanson the group who 'sang' "Mmm, bop" several years ago. When they 'performed' 'live' on the Today Show, it was quite funny to see the three Hanson brothers (one at guitar, one at bass and another at drums) on the main stage yet immediately behind them were... guess what??? Yep, that's right! A guitarist, a bass player and a drummer! Actual professional musicians who COULD play... When you watched the kids 'play' it was quite clear their instruments were miked up, but were turned off at the mixer - the 'lead guitarist' wasn't even moving his left hand when the lead guitar had clearly changed chords several times throughout the song. Same thing with drums and the bass. Their lips never matched the voices either, so they were syncing on top of this all.
This is my point... Music actually used to be musicians - regardless of age. When Stevie Wonder started out his career as a child performer, he was actually performing himself - each and every song.
People like me do not in any way accept the corporate assumption that we won't notice... it's terrible!
5. Notice my previous comments about how much spam comes out about these 'stars'. It's hard to not be exposed to far too much in the US - even if you're not a fan. Also, the more legitimate publications like Rolling Stone aren't at all afraid to call it like they see it - and they've shed much light on pathetic excuses for 'stars' like Ashlee. I highly recommend it if you've never read it. They're proud to bite the hand that feeds them, if it deserves to be.
6. See above.. she's not a star; and she's not even good at pretending to be one. She's clearly very awkward looking in just about everything she does.
7. You're right - on occasion if they've screwed up my order, and try to make excuses instead of fixing it, I have been rude. There's a big difference, however, between ordering 5 sandwiches and receiving 3 - then demanding to speak to the manager if the McWorker who screwed up refuses to immediately correct the mistake; and her 'performance' of crawling up onto the counter and screaming at the McWorker and belittling them.
What you or I do when 'McWorkers go bad' is post a legitimate grievance; what she did deserves a large fine for breaking a series of Health Code statutes (she placed her footwear on a serving surface if you hadn't noticed) and for just being a bitch, especially since she's a 'celebrity' and the McWorker didn't do anything wrong in the first place other than apparently stare at her a little bit. That's what she needs to expect for signing up to be their 'artist of the year'.
As to your last comment, no it's not some bandwagon - and if you look at my posting date it was nearly 4 months ago that I made this post you replied to. For me it's not about 'being cool and dissing somebody whose fun to diss', it's about making sure that young people who know that she's fake but are afraid to tell their teenage friends they feel that actually have some real assertions to make besides 'she sux b4llz d00d!'. It's possible I'm one of the people leading your 'bandwagon', but if so it's unintentional... I just call it as I see it, and Ashlee is annoying. That and of course to let the media understand how transparent their terrible Frankensteins are these days...
Now if they actually promoted young people with real talent, none of this would be necessary - so please blame the record execs who are too lazy to scout out talent, and not me... :P
