Is This Like Crash '96

The preview seems to indicate there's a small population that gets its kicks by self mutilation very similar to Crash with the exception of not involving car crashes. Just seems very similar and if they approach it in the same way I can't see this working out well.

When I was reading the movie's summary I was thinking to myself that this sounds a lot like something David Cronenberg would make.
But I totally agree with you, there are a lot of similarities.

while there are thematic similarities, the two films are actually quite different, both in style and in outcome and in execution - mainly because of Crash's source material (the JG Ballard book) - as the one review stated, QPQ is much more a noirish detective story that just happens to be set in this unique community - the more interesting comparison for me was Val Kilmer's Salton Sea with its crew of speed freaks - it does the film some injustice to market it as a Cronebergian-type of movie instead of the very good noir that it is - Croneberg was locked into filming the book, after all - still, it would be interesting to see what he would do with the same script - easily Nick Stahl's best role so far and I think seeing it in the theater really brings out the nuances of the small scale sets

@jwc

I chuckled when I read your mention of THE SALTON SEA. That was a bizarre bunch you likened these too....not entirely far-fetched just totally left field for me.
