The CliffsNotes version of Pride and Prejudice.

Aside from a few highlights, like the score, Matthew MacFadyen's Darcy, and the costume and makeup department's admirable efforts to try to make Keira Knightly look mousy, this is a very hollowed-out version of the book.

Lots of style. Very little substance.

I tried to join the CIA once, but they found out my parents were married.

[Tongue in cheek] You mean, besides the lush cinematography, enchanting score, superb acting, beautiful costumes, tight script, it's not a great movie?

You might have a point (see here http://www.jasna.org/persuasions/on-line/vol27no2/stewart-beer.htm).

Then again, a few Jane Austen scholars found this adaptation quite stimulating: http://www.jasna.org/persuasions/on-line/vol27no2/toc.html

I rewatched it today after about ten years, and I agree. So much attention to the production, art direction, set pieces. The "romance" between Elizabeth and Darcy was as interesting as watching paint dry, totally passion-less. Keira Knightley was the Taylor Swift of her day, I guess.
