One ? (spoilers)

Ok so (forgot his name) the main character's cellmate, that got him into the entire terrorist plot, he seems to have decided at the end to not blow himself up when we see him take off the bomb that was strapped on his chest. Anyone have any reasons why he backed out? I felt that perhaps he had himself lost faith and the drive for vengance, which was strange, since he was the one who told the main character not to get too "comfortable", yet as the movie neared the end, he seemed to become a bit influenced by some of america's seedier aspects, (meeting at a strip club, then a prostitute leaving his motel where he was obviously drunk...) I just thought it was a very smart and very indirect portrayal of him, ironically and hypocritically, getting influenced by the very culture he viewed as evil and which he wanted to damage literally with his plot.
