Why is the movie considered a comedy? I don't recall there being anything to laugh at all and that it was instead rather serious and somber.

Some intentional light humor is injected into the story at the beginning, but I am with you that it is mislabeled as a comedy. Comedy-drama seems to me a more appropriate description.

Agreed there are a few one liners between the plumber and the restaurant owner but the majority of this movie is drama, with a very sad ending...
