I can't remember if you can mix the two different versions.
But what you can do is just start the game on one PC, then take the disc out and start it up on the other.
Always worked for me and my sisters.
No, you can't mix AOC with AOK. Since she doesn't have AOC, you'll just have to play AOK with her until she upgrades (it's well worth it)... Seeing as how you have AOC, then you also have AOK, so there's no issues here...
More technical stuff...
You also have to keep in mind your router configurations and firewalls, set them all to allow Age... and you may have to adjust port numbers in your router(s). Check the official site for the info... That's if you play straight through the game on the LAN/Internet.
Gamespy isn't that bad either for playing the age games, but again, you'll have to adjust firewall/ports...
