I don't get it.

Is it staged or not? I don't understand. Some of it doesn't seem real, and others do. Is it staged or not? I don't understand.

Wherever, whatever, have a nice day.

OKay here we go:

Unscripted is not a reality show. It is an improvisational comedy based on the real lives of the three main actors: Krista, Bryan, and Jen. They play themselves, but caricatures of themselves. The situations they are placed in on the show...some are based on real events, some are completely fictional, and some are actually chronicaling the actors' real work, so the show mixes reality and fiction. The actors, writers, and producers sat around and talked about funny moments in their careers and auditions they screwed up, etc before they began shooting the show, in order to combine stories and get some really solid moments. For example, when Bryan gets the role in "Prime" and goes to NY: that is the show following his actual career-- Bryan was actually cast in the film and the shooting schedule conflicted with Unscripted's schedule, so the producers just wrote it in. However, when Krista went to NY for Taylor Ball's "movie," that was completely fictional. Taylor Ball is an actor, not a teenage director; he was playing a character in Unscripted, and Krista never did an independent film for a student. The point here was to show how desperate she was to get reputable roles that will showcase her talent instead of her looks. And lastly, an example of something based on truth was the casting agent telling Jen to lose ten pounds and get some work under her before they would take her on as a client. I hope this helps!

It's essentially like a less funny, more creative version of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Not the plot. . . but the general type of format.
